OK bare with me; last night I switch on my Ipod (a 4G mini), and the thing is completely empty. all 3.5g's that were on it gone. it was fine the day before, and only sat on my desk since.
so I shrug , plug it in and tell itunes to sync all my music again. nothing happens. doesn't matter what I do, how I fiddle with itunes , it wouldn't put music on the ipod. I gave up and went to bed. today when I plug it into my computer to try again it tells me it's updating something or other. I let it do it's thing, but now it only shows me a picture of what looks like a plug with an arrow pointing at a socket (power outlet), and the computer doesn't see it anymore, and I don't have an external power adapter as I just charge it off the usb somebody please tell me that there's a way around this so's I can get my pretty pink mini working again. pretty please

I had something similiar happen.
Hold down the Menu and Center button together till it shuts completely off. Wait for a while and press the menu button again to turn it on. Hopefully that should help. Edit: I think the reason for it was that it was not getting disconnected properly from the computer. When u press the eject button on iTunes it removes if from just that program but you also have to remove it from the computer by goin to safely remove hardware down in the corner by the time. It could also be because of use of an adapter like to a car stereo (where it connects to the bottom or a speaker system). |

also, you have to "eject" it via iTunes, not just unplug it

thanks guys, but i already tried all that gubbins to no avail. It goes blank then flashes up the big apple like normal when you reset, but then goes straight back to that plug thing and still won't switch on or connect to the computer
and come to think of it, I probably didn't eject it properly last time, so that might be it. and I can't for the life of me think of anyone I know with an ipod to borrow a wall charger off, so that's out. any other bright ideas? (it just having gone xmas I can't afford a new one)

Had a similar issue with my Ipod - this worked for me.
Taken from the Apple Web site - http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/ To reset your iPod mini:

i had that happen. I actually cracked it open to see if I could fix it. I never could.
then all of the sudden it sprang to life again.

now I'm trying to let the battery go flat (it's an ipod, shouldn't take long), and then try resetting again and see if that works. |

I found this so far;
Kinda sounds like you may need to send it to them for a new battery,
