Thinking of getting over to OSX?

Anyone of you thinking of going over to Apples computers and the OSX operating system?

I don't mean to start a Mac vs. PC war here. I'm just curious of your future purchases; A computer that's ready for Windows Vista, or a new Intel Mac with OSX Leopard?

Depends what you intend to do but personally, I want games too so I don't have much choice... Vista...

Though one of each would be the best

Well I recently bought a Dell E1405 laptop and it shure is a great product. But a couple of friends of mine have just bought the new MacBook and I must say that it's a pretty fine machine.

Good thing about OSX is the lack of viruses for the system, although I don't like the GUI and all of the useless effects.
And Vista seems to have alot of stuff that takes alot of system memory. I've heard that a clean install of Vista is using over 500mb of RAM.

If I had the money I would get a Mac. I might get one anyway in the next 5 years or so.

you can install OSX on your PC as long as it has an intel processor....... dual boot so you get the best of both worlds. you can even do the reverse http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/

That I have, and it shure did work. Although the wireless and internal soundcard did not function. And if the wireless doesn't work...what's the point of it?

I don't know dude,
after a few hour's searching me and friend found a guide showing you how to install OSX 10.4.3 via Ubuntu Linux, obviously you say bye bye to your data due to OSX using the HFS/HFS+ File system (i think) but it was pretty cool... for a bit...
Unfortunately my friend (after i left the next day, sleepover) decided it would be a REAL smart idea to try install XP on another HDD, fair enough but OSX screwed up and we lost 4 hours of progress for nothing while ubuntu converted the file system.

Anyways to the point, OSX is extremely picky about the hardware it allows you to use, when i was using my Asus P5S800-VM i could install OSX 10.4.6 on a blank 20 GB hdd i had no problem, but since i switched to my new Foxconn mainboard it won't enter setup, it displays a no entry symbol above the apple logo.

But yeah i suppose depending on what you want to do OSX is the right choice for some people, i quite liked it's efficiency with applications such as Photoshop and Flash but i'm a gamer and i don't mind waiting sometimes so it's still windoze for me

Well I do like Windows XP, apart from all the spyware and viruses. Though I am using NOD32, which is like the best AV program ever, it would have been nice to not using any anti-virus software at all.
And Vista is still a no-go for my laptop, since it "only" have 1GB of RAM.

Oh well, guess I still have to be using my Dell & WinXP for a bit longer.

actually not even XP gets too badly infected even when you don't use much protection like me, if your'e careful where you visit and you stick to gaming (hehe ;P) your system does actually stay remarkably clean, i've been using mine for about 4 months now without protection and i'm clean from spyware and viruses and all that shizz (at least that i know about, i've prolly got something covertly transmitting every keystroke i type over the web to some 40 year old that lives with his mom ;P)

and MS recommend 1GB Ram for Vista, i've been trying to use it with my rig and it doesn't perform too bad, just gets a system rating of 2.6 when i check XD

Well I've always been using virus program for the last 6 years, well ever since I had broadband at home. And my computer has never been infected.
So it looks to me that if you have an updated Windows with the latest Service Pack and security updates and a common sense about what links to click on and not, you could get pretty far.

No Allan isn't pulling anyone's leg. I ran it on PC for awhile. Its illegal...just fyi. but hey whatever.

I went over to mac last year and have been miserable since. IF you decide to do it, DO NOT buy a macbook or macbook pro for another 6 months or so. IT takes apple about a year to work kinks out. The Imacs apparently are doing quite well though so that'd be okay. Also dont use anything less than 1gb. it'll crawl. Also don't expect free software. Everything costs money.

no prob teme.

So heres the deal. At the moment, if you're comfortable with not getting anything DONE on your computer, go for a mac. Now people will think I'm anti-Apple and while I have had a horrid experience with them I'm not totally against them. I feel they have issues to work out and I refuse to drink the koolaid.

Heres the truth about macs:

you can't play games on them. its true. You really just can't.

Previously you could run all the office software just fine...that was great...and then there was tons of creative stuff for you to use. Now thats still true HOWEVER most companies have yet to port their software over to x86. Rosetta is quite good but it gets you nowhere near the speed you need. Photoshop CS2 is barely usable on a Core Duo. Word and Excell can barely be opened together at the same time. It really kills the machine even with 1gb of ram.

Now of course this will change. If you wait a bit they'll fix the software issues...and in waiting that period of time you'll also have better build quality as apple continues to work out the kinks.

So moral of the story is: if you want a mac and dont want the headaches, wait awhile to purchase. Think it over awhile. Go and play around with them at mac stores in the meantime. Then grab one this summer.

Would I buy a Mac? No way.

Would I use OS X? Sure. If I could use it on my own PC, as a 2nd OS besides Windows of course. I certainly wouldn't "switch" and leave Windows behind, it's far too useful for me.

wow neitheir did i, especially with all these ridiculous claims of macs (spacks xD) being "SUPER EFFICIENT" and "MORE SECURE", the only reason their more secure is because nobody is lonely enough to make spyware for a mac <_<
