Ever Have to Go Back to Work in Order to Get Some Rest???
Man, this past week has been a killer! You'll know why in a moment.
When my son and daughter-in-law bought this house, it was a 'fixer-upper' and they got it for a very good price. So, a lot of things had to be done initially to make it comfortable enough to move in to. One of the first things was to completely revise the kitchen area. The supports beneath the floor and the floor itself had to be repaired/replaced. So, in the following photos you'll notice some new floor tiles that were laid (by yours truly) some time ago. Also, once the floor was completed, there had to be some new cabinets made...(also by yours truly.) Well, once the cabinet frames were made so that the kitchen could be functional, other things had to be done and the kitchen cabinets doors were put on the back burner. That is, until this past weekend. My daughter-in-law made a trip to Florida with her mother-in-law (yes, my ex-wife) for a few days. So, my son thought this would be the ideal time to surprise her on her return by having the cabinet doors made. (Again, by yours truly.) The cabinet facing is made of Poplar and the sides and shelving are of Birch Plywood. So, the doors are also made of Poplar frames with Birch panels. Rather than fill up the entire post with a lot of photos, I'll post just a few 'Before and After' shots in Thumbnail version for those on dial-up. The "crunch time" was that we had only from the time I got home late Saturday night until mid-Thursday afternoon to get it all done. With very few special exceptions, we made it. ![]() BTW, some of the ceiling had to be replaced initially, and the recessed lights were installed by us as well. They are on dimmer control, too. EDIT: I almost forgot! I also made the countertops. They are made of a formica-type product from Wilsonart and the front top edge is routered to a 45 degree bevel. The Before Photos follow: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And, the AFTER Photos: ![]() ![]()

Damn man not bad at all. I would have never thought to use those materials. That actually looks really good.
Now, my small room needs a few shelves made, up for the task? |

Looks nice Dyre. Back here we use birch a lot. Staring from tables to houses support structures. And of course we heat the sauna with them.

Maybe it just looks like that in the photos, but the fridge seems a bit large to me for that small kitchen. I would push it back (it's probably not possible because of the wall behind it, right?). Or cover it with wood, so that it wouldn't be so eye-catching. But otherwise it looks good Dyre.

Oh, yeah, I can just see it now: Dyre shows up to fly to Nebraska bearing skill saw, mitre saw, radial arm saw, nailguns, power caps, hammer and other construction tools and tells them, "Some guy named 'GutterPunk' wants me to work on his house."
