Thinking about buying a new car very soon

in fact, possibly this monday.

There are a few things i'm worried about it though. the mileage is one. nearly 110k miles. if properly maintained, how much longer is the engine/transmission expected to last? below is a pic of the car similar to i'm i might be getting. A 2000 2dr. Honda Accord v6.

Anybody have any thoughts or opinions on this? I would like to know before i make this purchase. I still need to run a CARFAX report on the car to verify it's history. Primarily, if it's been in an accident or not. And if so, how bad the accident was. If it's a salvage title or not, etc.

The car itself is very clean. The exterior is well kept, the inside is very clean. the leather doesn't look very worn at at all.

those honda engines are bullet proof. completely. (it was mentioned on top gear at some point that honda had made X million number of vtec engines without one reported failure worldwide)
properly looked after it'll outlast the rest of the car easy, I wouldn't worry about the millage in that respect. use it as a bargaining point to get the price down though.

Except for my honda engine. It couldn't handle high altitude + climbing a mountain. 2000 civic 2dr coupe automaic ex. My g/f has a 100k 2dr civic also that runs like a champ. I forsee another 80k from it. A honda properly take care of = pwnage. If the price is right go for it. My friend's accord has lived since 84, 320k miles and has seen every state except for hawaii.

but what about the transmission? that's just as equally important. will that also last the same lifetime of the engine?

it'd be like having a MoBo, CPU, and RAM, gfx card, but no HDD to boot up to if the tranny goes out.

From my knowledge of Honda's as long as they weren't treated badly and serviced reguarly, you should have no forseeable problems. But again, nothing is writtin in stone!

i know. which is why i'm concerned. having the high miles this particular one i'm looking at has, i'm not sure if it was serviced properly or what.

i did some reasearch on blue book value of the car, and the one i'm looking at is $1,500 less than what it's supposed to be at. i'll try and bring it down some more. i'm sure i could with the amount of miles it has.

don't you keep a service history of your cars in the states? shows you when/where/what has been done to a car throughout it's lifetime?

yea, it's called CARFAX. does exactly what you're talking about. it's based off of the VIN of the car. I'm going to run the report on this particular car before i get it...if i get it.

Why don't you get a trike with, for example, a VW beetle rear and a big powerful engine. They're so much more fun

I'm a honda man through and through, everything from economy models like my current civic to my race tuned Integra-R. Don't worry about the mileage, 110,000 miles is run in time for a honda however the major thing to check is that the car has had it's timing belt changed, it amazes me how lazy people can be when it comes to this.
Manual gearboxes will give you no problems, i've heard of a potential problem with the accord auto-boxes having an unusually high failure rate due to problems with the diff bearings.

Here's a thread that should answer any queries but if you have any questions feel free to ask http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1502084
