Beer and Wine thread. Tip's, hint's etc.

I'll start this off with a wine question, and a beer recommendation.

Wine:

How long do you usually leave a bottle of wine in the frige after it's been opened? I basically drink a local red wine, called Red Cat from upstate New York in Watkins Glen. I have had a bottle last up to a week before finishing it. I've noticed alot of people say wine will last a week, and others say 3 days. What's your take on it?

Beer:

Now for beer. I enjoy Bud Light alot, as I prefere a light beer taste. I've had many from around the world, from German beer, to Australian beer. I also like the Norwegian beer Ringnes.

But by fare my favorite is Samual Adams Light. It's about 3 to 4 bucks more expensive per six pack then Bud though. Normally I can get a six pac of Bud from Wal-Mart at about $4.57. But the Sam Adams I can only get at the actually Liqure store, which costs about $7-10 bucks.

If anyone has any light Beer recommendations please tell me.

Feel free to add info on your favorite items. I suppose listing other hard liqure drinks would be good as well.

I enjoy heineken light when its hot out, or good old heiney.

As for parties coors or bud light, blue light is my mass consumption beverage of choice.

I drink micro brew beer; I find it has much better flavour and body than the 'big brews'. Mostly I drink KB beer www.kbbeer.com, which is local to this city.

When I do drink from large brewers, it's usually labatt's blue or kokanee. Both are decent, especially on a hot day.

Fave beers are Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale, Founder's Centennial IPA, Bell's Expedition Stout, Guinness (of course), and New Holland Brewery's "The Poet" Oatmeal Stout.

Founders is brewed right here in my home town. Bell's is brewed in Kalamazoo, Michigan. New Holland is brewed in Holland, Michigan.

I keeps it local. Check out www.allaboutbeer.com for some beers that are local to your area. Try something that doesn't taste like water with bubbles in it. I guarantee that you won't think that those macrobrews (Bud, Miller, etc) are worth your dollars.

I never liked having wine in normal fridge, there are special fridge made spectific for wines. I usually store wines in the basement where the storage room is, in basement usually have the right temperature for my wine because it never too cold or too warm.

If you open the wine (aka cork out) then it's open, you already brought alots of air in the wine so therefore about 3 days the wine would be so-so or spoil (would taste like vinegar). I perfer when you open the wine, let it out in a couple of hour or drink it right away . I usually share the wine with my friends not just myself. If there's some wine left (aka 50% fill), you can recork back to the bottle and leave it in the fridge BUT it should not be later then 3 days.

White wine can last a week.

I'll 2nd the Heineken Light, good stuff. I like Light beer in general.
As for wine, I like white wine but it will give me a helluva hang-over. White Zin is probably my favorite kind of wine overall. I prefer my wine to be at room temperature.

For the harder stuff I like Crown Royal and Captain Morgan. I like 'em straight~they are too good to mix with anything.

I'm not a beer expert at all and I don't drink beer too often. When I drink it's usualy our local Kozel or Staropramen.

Here are two Czech Republic beer maps for beer travelers

When you go to an upscale bar, chances are they will have a good selection of single malt scotch. Occasionally, they will have a Single Malt sampler which is the best way to figure out what kind you like. Single malt is the premium scotch that is aged for years (older=better) and is generally sold by geograhic region similar to wines with each having quite different flavor overtones.

Blended scotch is what you should use if mixing it in a drink.

Glen Fiddich = Most common at bars, not my favorite

Personally, I recommend Macallan, Oban, Glenmorangie

Check wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottis...le_malt_whisky

PS - Yousaif... had the Kentucky Breakfast at Founder's yet? mmmmmm... good.

I didn't have it at the brewery, but my local specialty store about a block from my house had a 4 pack of it sitting on the counter. I just had to buy it.

What flavor! OMG I had never had a beer that was aged in whiskey barrels before. Me likey.

Its not really a session beer though, as 2 of those will make you want to hump something.
