My Grandfather died.

Yesterday at 4:45 PM he passed away, and I couldn't even be there. I've been so ill and stuck in bed for the past 3 days that I couldn't even be there to see him through it.

Luckaly my parents and my grandmother were there though. I feel so bad right now since I wasn't there. He had been battling cancer now for about 18 months, so I'm so happy he finally passed. Now I have to try and make it to the funeral and dinner this friday. I'm really going to hate myself if I miss it..

Anyways I just needed some where to vent.

Many condolences on you're loss of you're Grandfather.

Thats something i have never experienced for myself so it's hard to choose words.. i was only two and a half when i lost my Grandfather (on my mothers side) which is long time ago now.My other grandparents (Fathers Side) died before i was born.

Cancer is a terrible thing for anyone to have.. If you don't mind me asking how old was he?

Besides hope all goes well and you do make it to pay you're respects.

Sorry to hear that man, I know how you feel though. When I was in 4th grade my grandfather died of lung cancer, though I really wasnt sure what it was at the time. I just knew he was really sick at the time and then one night he died.

Please accept my heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your grandfather.

5 years ago this month, we lost my step-dad to cancer. Fortunately, all of us were present at the time. But, it was a long ordeal watching him just about waste away for almost a year.

This coming weekend, my mom and I are going up to his home for a family reunion and to visit his gravesite. So, your loss really does hit home right now. I hope you can make it to the funeral service.

I know where you are coming from man..
lost mine not so many years ago..
and old bear with a story he never told me and a life I never knew..
I got to tell him I loved him though, maybe it wasnt much, but he is at peace..
I hope you can find the peace your grandfather has found.
our finite existence defines us and somehow we are more than just molecules and dust
Please write a letter to him in your heart or on paper, and when the day comes to find his final resting place, read the letter to him, it will make a difference..
either way I hope you can find some balance and peace of mind.

Thank you guys. He was 76, so he had a good life. Still seems short though. I'm starting to feel better, and it is only Tuesday, so I should be able to make it I hope!

My condolences, my friend, to you and your family.

All I can say is to not trouble yourself with having not been there to see him physically as you were there in spirit. I know that sounds like one big cliche, but if there's one thing I've learned over the last few years, especially these last couple months, is that people know you are there for them at life's end. It's the damnedest thing, but be it in spirit, or thought, they know, and I'm sure your Grandfather knew too.

Take care of yourself, and let the rest flow from there.

My condolences to you, 10 years since I lost my grandfather and 4 years since I lost my grandma, don't let the fact you didnt see him go get to you, I bottled it up for a long time and it changed the person I became. It's easy to feel angry but whats done can't be undone. Go to the funeral, say your goodbyes and cry, then go out and do something you know he'd have been proud of you for.
One of my strongest memories was my grandfather taking me into a room and showing me a case he kept with the medals he and his father before him earned in the army, I decided after he'd gone that my tribute would be to join up, I served proudly for 5 years and always had the feeling that he was watching over me with a smile on his face.

Get well soon friend and go comfort your folks at this difficult time.

My condolences. My grandfather died from cancer a couple of years ago, it's tough for the entire family near the end, I hope everyone is able to cope, and draw support from each other.

My heart felt condolences. I lost my grandfather to cancer also, so i know how it is. Luckly i had a chance to say goodbye. Hope you feel better soon.
