NBC is blocking ADblock users!

I know one of the most popular Firefox addons is Adblock! Well today when I tried to watch a video on NBC.com, it refused to play until I disabled Adblock! Hopefully other websites don't block access for blocking their ads!

fox news will not play if you block certain ads through the hosts file... This goes with cnn and msn too.

Exactly, it doesn't effect me either. I don't use NBC or any other new sites.

You can watch the most recent episode of a lot of primetime shows on the networks' websites now, which is great if your schedule prevents you from watching it. This is a free, ad supported service (just like if you were to watch the programming on tv) so I can understand why they would put in a protective measure like this. I'd rather they try this first before they consider canning the whole system.

Advertisements prevent me from watching TV in the first place.

Oh well, this doesn't really affect me in any way.

All this complaining for ads in sites. I don't get it. What is the big deal when you are given the chance of watching a free tv show to have a banner on the side or top or both.

Because contrary to what web developers say; there is no unspoken agreement that we will look at banner ads, pop-ups, and pop-unders to view their site content. If I choose to block their intrusive ads that is my choice.

I don't really care that they are blocking adblock. As I mentioned, I don't use their site anyway so it doesn't effect me. I will say that I now am blocking all of the ads on this site though because there are just too many. (For a site like this I would be willing to pay $10-15 per year to get rid of the ads completely)

I don't know, apart from the very very very rare cases where there is a problem with a specific ad that causes the browser to crash, I couldn't care less about ads in sites. I almost like them. What I do mind though are the ads with sound or those that make every 5th word a link for a pop up window that you don't even have to click on it to appear.

I am a bit confused about what you say many ads on this site. I barely see them and definately are not intrusive for me.
