Wewt, i have a job!
As i'm sure some/most of you know, i'm 15 and out of work whilst being desperate for money.
I went into town (Keighley) and asked at pretty much every shop including morrisons, game shops, 3 computer shops and the place where i did work experience. Nobody had any jobs and i was getting quite pissed off to say the least because i was in serious need of some cash and my parents couldn't give me any because money's a bit tight for them at the minute. My mate Chris lives in a pub close to my school so i asked him to speak to his mum about me getting a job there. Next day at school he told me i need to go talk to his mum to get the job, so mum dropped me off at the pub and i had a word with her, she told me what the job was (Pot washing, which i'm not too bothered about. At least it makes a change from paper rounds) and when i'd be working roughly. She told me to come back if i was going to take the job. After a last hunt around i decided there was nothing else and went to go speak to her again, but she was ill. So i spoke to Chris' grandma and she said she'd tell Joanna (Chris's mum) that i'd been in. Day after, i went back in and spoke to Joanna again. We had the whole sit down with the diary and take details thing going on, She explained my hours, my job, my wages (which i was astonished by), and extra opportunities there might be for me. I was so chuffed, i'm going in to work on friday on a trial basis to see if she'll take me. 6 Till 9 at £4.50 an hour!! WOW!!! My mum and dad were pleased and so was my grandma when i rang her up to tell her. I mean jesus christ, £4.50 an hour, i'm even getting paid on my trial night ![]() £13.50 for 3 hours work, meh... i'm lovin it ![]() Woohoo! |

Good news, congratulations!
Funny how that works - about those people connections we make in life helping to make things possible... Remember, no matter how nasty it looks (or feels...hmmm), it's just food. You'll always come away from that job with your hands clean though! I've washed a dish or two in a restaurant as well.

My very first job was at my fathers radio and tv station, I was a graphic artist I guess, I created small storyboards and did the wheel and cued up records, etc. It paid 3 dollars and 75 cents an hour in monopoly money as they say here in the UK.

Congrats on getting the job if that's what you want...
However, don't get stuck working somewhere you don't enjoy at your age, there will be plenty of times when you're older when you won't have a choice whether to work or not. Also, if you're in school, it's worth considering how a job will affect your education. I'm making far more money from scholarships than would from a job if I spent my time working instead of studying.

usually the legal age for being able to drink is the starting point for when you can work at such a place (in canada)....
i don't know of many countries that the legal age is under 16..... unless it's a dinner as well.. which that basically changes everything, anyone will be able to work thier, just that minors won't be able to serve beer and whatnot.

My first job was in a sports card shop, stocking hockey cards back in the summer of 91... for $20 a day under the table. I also delivered papers, flyers and hustled other kids for their sports cards. All in all I was able to afford a pretty decent video game library and was able to buy my own Nike Airs.
Anywa, congrats Mousey. Thers nothing like having things that you yourself earned, you appreciate them more. |

More good news guys
![]() I went for my trial night and i really enjoyed working with the staff there (The pub's called the Brown Cow), there's a girl from school i know called Alice who works as a waitress as well so it wasn't quite as awkward as i thought. Anyway, i got my pay, got home, went on MSN and my mate Chris who lives in the pub messages me. He said "Do you want to hear some good news" and i went Yes, and he does the whole "ARE YOU SURE?" thing. And eventually... ... ... [Suspense] ... HE SAID I HAD THE JOB, WOOHOO =D |
