Who took advantage of the HD DVD specials this weekend?
Who took advantage of the HD DVD specials this weekend? I am curious if we could start a poll with this question.
I bought a Toshiba HD-A3 at best buy this weekend for $199. They had a deal where you got 10 movies free. I got the following movies with the purchase: 300 The Bourne Identity Casino The Last Samurai Shooter I will get the following via mail: Babel Pitch Black Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Firewall Troy I saw that wal-mart had the older model HD-A2 for $98 and there were other insane deals at other retailers. Please keep the comments civil. I know there are pro's and con's to BD and HD DVD, but this thread is about the HD DVD player sales from the past weekend. |

I'm still holding off because I think Blu-Ray will come out the winner. I may be wrong but with my luck if I bought either it would end up losing the HD war and I'd be screwed.

The price is one of the main things that made me decide to go with HD DVD. There are some other factors too. One being that the HD DVD format is already finalized and all of their hardware offers the same features. The hardware is a huge turn off when it comes to Blu-Ray. With profile 1.1 players and discs coming and the fact that the newer profile actually adds hardware that the older players don't have makes me think that Sony's business model involves having you buy 3-4 players. I have also read that with profile 1.1 the ethernet port is still not a requirement so you miss out again on interactive downloadable content. With profile 2.0 Blu-Ray will have the same features as HD DVD. Then there is the rumor of a profile 3.0 that I keep hearing about. |

I don't think we have to worry about that. Some sales numbers are coming in and right now it's looking like more than 90,000 HD DVD players were sold from Friday to Sunday. (This number is a lot higher than I expected)

I mean what really is there not to like about Blu-ray? It holds way more than an HD-DVD can, not to mention the only things HD-DVD has been boasting is some garbage special features. |

If it's a choice between spending $399 for a Blu-Ray player or $98 for an HD-DVD player from WALMART, I'll spend the $399. I hate Walmart and their business practice and refuse to buy anything from them.

It doesn't matter. I don't think that either format will go anywhere, but I will continue to support HD DVD. That's fine. I didn't buy mine at walmart either. In fact all the walmart sale did was make everyone around drop their prices so you had $99 players at: BestBuy, Target, Circuit City, and Amazon. (To name a few) |
