what shocked me was that Finland has third highest handgun per capita in the world

We are ok. Here and still shocked. Actually I was waiting when some one would post this here. The guy who did this had made statement videos to youtube about two weeks before and no one picked them up and contacted the proper authorities. Tomorrow is national day of mourning in here so all flags age at half-mast.

I know that we have a good number of hunting rifles and stuff.

Anyway the guy had some serious issues. If you have read his text you can see how badly he was messed up.

Here I go again....not shocked at this situation, but saddened just as well.
In Colorado Springs, where my daughter and parents live, there is a shooting death almost every single day. Just yesterday, three high school kids were killed in a shotgun shooting spree that went from a parking lot all the way up the road from where my parents live. We consider ourselves fortunate if we are not involved in some way. Bullet holes and shotgun blasts to mailboxes are common. I grew up with the knowlege of firearms and possessed on in high school myself, as my father and his father before him. Its our gun culture that contributes to this problem. I actually own a Finnish rifle my brother bought me, but I cannot fire it anymore for a variety of reasons.
I just think our world is filled with guns, violence and killing, and we are not teaching our children to solve issues without killing, rather we promote violence rather than rational thinking.

I think the problem is too much pussification of the populace. Everything is so damn politaly correct and no one is allowed to express almost anything without worrying he will become the target of the P.C "police".
Add to this the complete inept parents and the not so hard to find weapons and you are bound to have problems.

we could become a nannying worrysome culture like here in the UK, cameras, cops and political correctness at every single turn, it is damn stifling really. Guns, our gun culture and our desire to isolate ourselves from the truthes of our society and blame our government is surely the crux of the problem, but is it politics or people that need to get involved, or is it just a damn shame.

Yeah, it's mostly because hunting rifles I think. Hand guns we are in 19th place.

Anytime that loss of life could be prevented or reduced and it is not is a terrible situation.
