mp3 player + headphones suggestion/question ?
I am looking for a pair to use when I go for a walk, about half an hour to 2 hours walk. I want it to be small, light, with good sound quality, cheap and not an Apple product.
I am leaning towards the Creative Zen Stone. I think 1GB will be enough (I usualy rip them at 320). Also a pair of headphones that are cheap, at least average quality and NOT in ear phones. Suggestions?

I'm going to sound like such a fanboy but i do seriously recommend a Sansa E2xx player, expandable memory right up to 8gb on the E280 model, radio (if you buy the US version, radio still works in the UK though) and good sound quality.
The headphones on it are a bit uncomfortable but i tend to listen to my music in bed and i lay on my side, i've ordered a pair of those gummy headphones though so i'll see how those go. All of Sandisk's players are very good apparently, i just love the E2xx range though (i own the E260). Much better built than the iPod imo. The aluminium on the back of my E260 is weighted, i've tested it on my bed and holding it in a position where i can view the screen, the player falls on it's back and would probably avoid damage. Anyone else would prolly say the iPod but it's up to what your'e prepared to pay really. My Sansa was £60 (That's the total price including shipping ect), the unit itself before shipping and VAT was £42.99 refurbished, but good as new though ![]() Amazon.co.uk: SanDisk Sansa e260 - 4Gb MP3 & Video Player: Electronics & Photo: Sandisk View all of the customer reviews btw, mine's the one by Thomas E. I bought myself a Zen Stone 1 GB with Creative EP-630 in-ear phones a few weeks ago.
I like the small size but there's one thing I don't like about that combo. I find the lowest volume too high. I sometimes listen to music while reading at night when it's very silent in the house. I use the lowest volume for that and I still find myself wanting to reduce it some more but I can't. If I wanted to use it in a noisy place with headphones that are not in-ear, this player would be fine. It does not have a display but there's a button to skip to the next folder in alphabetic order. |

Since it's for walking I would suggest the Sony sports walkman which has a built in pedometer, calorie counter and uses motion sensing (ie shaking) to control many of the functions; also is water resistant and comes with an armband. It comes in 1 & 2 gig configurations, though the headphones are not earbuds they are "in ear".

I have EP-630s, they're good
Wouldn't know about headphones though. (The Grado SR60s are good, cheap but probably not for walking). For walking definitely a flash-memory-based player, just see what you can find and google for reviews on them. |

The Sansa players look to me very ugly. Also, I have no need for a player that plays videos. In fact, the smaller the screen the better. I also don't like mp3 players that look like phones.
4GB or 8GB is just too much. I am only going to use the player for a couple of hours a day at most. For someone that doesn't care for the above, the Sansa e260 looks like a very good offer. I am between the Stone and the Sony NW-S205F. The Sony has Sonicstage that I am not fond off. But IIRC you don't HAVE to change the mp3s to atrac format. The Sony one has all that I want in a mp3 player that I Am looking for, plus some things that I didn't know I wanted till I found them on it. I can find the pink version at 25% cheaper than the black and silver. I guess people don't like the pink colour, but since I have no problem with the colour and I don't care for any comment about it (colour), it looks like a good offer. Coupled with a pair of KOSS KSC75 earphones, plus p&p, it goes up to about 105 euros. About 45 more than I was planning. I haven't decided yet.

can't help on the mp3 player front, I use an ipod I'm afraid (have read good things about that stone thingy though), but for cheap over the ear headphones you have to get senn px100's, there is nothing better for anything close to the money
