need help on a Networking assignment
Hey guys,
Some of you might know I'm an IT student doing my B. Comm. Right now I am doing a group project on building a mock network solution for an HQ, I have a few questions. Right now I am having problems finding a product that would be a wireless router for an enterprise, that can support about 150 users. It would be for one floor. Since this is an assignment, I posted in off topic. I was looking through cdw.com but confused what would be my solution. thanks in advance, I do need this very soon |

a wireless router capable of supporting 150 users (wireless)...
any speed requirements? VPN? Dollar limit? Obviously even one of the top end home routers probably wouldn't work very well handling 150 computer with several dozen connections be it out bound and inbound and from machine to machine....

I haven't delt with anything up in that range at all...
Obviously cisco would be my first stop..... but definitely not my last.. someone else would be better off making suggestions.... cause a home solution or even a home/business solution isn't going to do the job

You need a access point not a router. Here is one that is used in the enterprise environment.
Cisco Aironet 1130 AG Series - Products & Services - Cisco Systems For my senior project we had to add to an existing wireless network and this is the AP we used.

anyone else... what would be a good server to use as a DHCP server for approximately 1500 users? maybe 2000? I am pretty new at this stuff.
edit - actually how many of the Access Points would be needed for a department of 100 people, it won't be a huge amount of area. I assuming distance and inteferences will come into play. It would be like a sales department, so maybe some cubicles

i seriously don't have an answer for it .... i haven't a clue where to start...
but i'd think that a single dhcp server would be best.. and then basically multiple hubs and switches.. along with wireless access points would be best

Like i said.. the concept of the idea for me isn't hard to come up with.. but as for the hardware.. and actually setting it up is atm, way to far beyond me.... trust me... i'm in no way (at least i think) the one to talk to about this. It's using hardware that i'd have to special order in and then take about 2 weeks to read through to figure out... and then another month or better to put into practice and figure out what was best.
I mean i wish i could help.. but aside from what i've already posted...... i'm tapped out for anything more.
