Formula 1 season 2008

So here it comes again, a few hours to the new season start in Melbourne.
And as last year I expect nothing less than Ferrari win, though the qualification didn't turn out very well...
Maybe this season will be less boring with the new regulations, let's hope for less politics and more racing

Well, that was interesting.
Rosberg third place, not bad. Hamilto an easy win and Alonso out of the top 3, Very good day.

It wasn't that boring today, but I'm afraid (and on the other side I hope, for Ferrari) it will be back to normal next time...
And no please, don't cut the wheels off, I don't want to watch Moto GP

Quoted for truth!

I understand the safety aspect but there are just too many regulations in F1 now, I would much rather watch the Touring Cars at least I can go out and buy one of them!

Much the same way I prefer the Superbikes to MotoGP...

Raikonen was having problems with his car again (as usual) and made some stupid mistakes at the end..
was a decent race but it didn't have a lot of finishers.

Well, this year, more rule meddling, more planned for next year (aerodynamics).

2008 Formula One season - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The gearbox must now last 4 races (5 place penalty)
The first unscheduled engine change is now "free" - still required to last 2 races.
No traction control, no engine braking, standard ECU, further restrictions on adjustment (eg. a "start line" engine map can be used, but cannot immediately be switched).
Q1 lengthened to 20 min, Q3 reduced to 10 minutes, no fuel credit, so position 1-10 teams start with the fuel remaining after qualifying.
Further standardization of materials and components.
Fuel must have 5.75% biofuel (oh for the days of the top team's "jungle juice").

It seems that F1 is being dragged closer and closer to "cheap" formulas with a standard chassis, and while it could be argued that it becomes more of a drivers championship if rich teams are not permitted to outspend their lesser opponents on exotic materials, that is not the spirit of F1 - excellence of car and driver.

If we wanted to see a cheap formula race, we'd watch "Formula Ford", or one of the other ones tha come before the "elite" of F1.

The only way to save F1, bring back EVERY bit of technology, and just keep cutting the engine size if it gets too fast, then technology will improve the breed - and get rid of fuel stops so that fuel economy becomes an issue. Teams that can't keep up with the cost, don't belong at the top table of motor sport, or should we now limit what Premiership football spends, to make things easier on the minnows?

I agree, too many rules. Worried so much about those that can't compete and you get a nerfed championship. I mean, is there a good reason for drivers like Sato to continue?

Not strictly true, perhaps for 2 wheels yea, but for 4, Oz V8 is amazing racing, even the longer races.
Now those are beasts to drive.... (at least they seem that way, Ive not been in one, although when we were in Perth last year I test drove a Holden V8 'Ute which was feckin BRILLIANT tbh)

Yeh, too many silly rules. Why not just have a set that say something like "wheel at each corner (as many as you like, remember the 6 wheeler?), overall length =X, overall width =X, height overall =X, no active aero, engine size =X , any cylinder configuration." That way teams are free to experiment and we get to see different cars. Maybe even some technology might filter down to raod cars like it did/does from rally. At the moment it's only the paint that differs between the teams (especially McLaren & Ferrari, nudge nudge)........

This season I'll be happy if the bloody presenters could learn how to say "6th", that's six-th, SIX-TH. Not sickth, sith, sick or any of the other variations they manage to spit out all the time (OK, rant over )

removing the traction control and all that made the race far more interesting than they have been in years past.
this is the season i get back into F1
