my contract...

I have been working as a software trainer for over four years now for IBM, and I recently bid on a contract that effectively doubled my pay and nailed down benefits and a housing allowance, medical, dental, etc. After being considered and re-interviewed over and over again, and competing with 79 other candidates, my contract was approved and I am waiting for any appeals by other contracters and the BAFO or best offer forward, but I was called by IBM and was told in so many words that I got it. I had to lower my bottom line by 3 percent and then juggle some things, but I think I have it clenched...

157,000 dollars a year to live and work in the UK and the EU with per diem and a company car....

I feel damn good...

The only thing that could bugger this up is one other person that bid the same amount and roughly the same qualifications, so I told my company to hire us both convinced them it would be to their benefit...

at least I hope..LOL

excited but still nervous...

I hope by monday it clicks...

I better get my 3 percent COLA too....

life is good

I am old, and I have good insurance.....

I have three ex wives, and indigent father and mother, two house payments, two new grandchildren and three car payments...I am not rich...just lucky.
Now I have to produce...
People dont understand the private sector...
they have expectations...
now I have bath daily, shave and change my shirt and trousers and get a new kit entirely, and the Audi...Christ the Audi....
I was going to get a fireblade but now I think I should stay off the road, especially after my accident last year...
have to think about the future..

I know income tax is high in the EU countries, how much average is in the USA, percentage wise.

Congratulations. Nothing like being 95 years old and getting a new good job.

Seriously though, well done.

In the UK? Isn't that excessive, I mean you could end up getting snide comments from your coworkers about how rosy you smell every morning.

A well paying job is great, I suppose, wouldn't know. But I've got 30+ years left to fix that. Happy for ya.

Very nice Jeff - yeah, here's hoping Monday bears the good news and your best expectations to you officially.

Even though you live overseas, you only pay taxes to the US - correct?

wellllllllll....
there is this wierd rule about working in the UK even on a visa...its kinda buggered really, and I will have to pay a fee and ultimately some taxes..
council tax
some form of income tax, contract to be forthcoming and amendments by the Home Office and the Third Airforce too.
VAT...etc...
it adds up.
And travel...oh hell yes...
I go to Germany, Azores, Italy, etc. I got euros and pounds floating around the console of my AUDI.
