Sad - 'Miracle' Marine dies; terribly burned in Iraq

A Marine sergeant who became a symbol of resilience as he strove to recover from a roadside bomb blast in Iraq that blanketed 97 percent of his body with burns has died, the Defense Department said. He was 22.

I worked with injured active duty people in 2001, they really suffer and like these lads in the UK that have come back, the NHS and the military has forgotten them, its quite sad really. They dont need just artificial limbs, drugs and therapy, they need to know that their efforts were not in vain, they need a friend.

I don't think you can say, "Poor guy" and "all that to survive and is gone" because, in those two years, he actually accomplished a lot. He died in hope, not despair, and died a death most people that die in despair wish they could've died.

The man is a hero, in his own heart and the hearts of all those his charity helps.

I don't think he could've asked for much more than that, to take the death at the road side bomb or live two years to do what he did -- I think that's worthy of all the effort he put into surviving.

I just hope he feels he accomplished as much in his short life that he would've liked to have done.

I wish his family the best, carrying his memory proudly.

Hence why dying after such a heroic effort almost seems ironic. The guy's definately a hero for battling through such a severe injury like that. Definately got more bawlz than me, RIP Hero.

You are right and because of the lack of friends and support PTSD sets in and thats why like 30% of our homeless in the US are veterans.
