Opera and Norton 360

My trial period for my Toshiba laptop trialware was at an end, I upgraded the trail version of Norton 360 and was clicking on this and that when I noticed my Opera browser didnt work. Of course I sat for one hour waiting for Symantecs online tech support to respond to my question.
"will Opera and Norton 360 get along?"
I had to google it, but its a well known issue, and all the firewall manips that I tried didnt resolve the problem. Symantec is silent on the issue but I have a more pressing question.
Is the Opera browser vulnerable, and if so, is it more rubbish than IE?
I am not a Firefox user but I noticed Symantec said they would support it, but failed to mention whether it would support Opera.
Inquiring minds want to know as I fritter the minutes away googling answers about Opera..LOL

Anythingelse > Norton.
Get rid of Norton keep Opera, even if Opera is free and Norton costs money.

Seriously.

are they a reason to get rid of a free web browser programs like opera or firefox, since it's such a small program?

if you still like to use the web browsers (other than IE) for browsing site contents like DH, then use it,
and if the antivirus supports IE better you can use IE for other sites or when needed.

I just like the features in Opera, havent used firefox in ages. I have read that Opera is rubbish in a variety of different places, and IE is rubbish and firefox is rubbish, etc etc...
IE is still on the lappy and I am keeping Norton even though it didnt perform as well as other AV suites, as an all in one its okay, but not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination. if Firefox is pretty then I will use it, I just there was an easy way to reskin IE without too much hassle.

solution

deinstall norton 360. keep opera.

install avast avast! antivirus - high security and protection from malware with anti-spyware and anti-rootkit software built in

easy as pie and yes opera is the best browser Jeff......

well, if you want to keep the norton, and also like using opera (more than IE or firefox) then you will have to do like i mention before.
or why not also try firefox again then if the norton supports it better than opera?

Plus I used avast now so far it's lighter on my system then norton 360 since 360 like suck up ram and scan your back ground always at 100% on usage I hated that thing so much.

those bloody background scans again...rubbish really.
I havent seen the memory usage you speak of, but then I have three gig to play with on my Toshy.
I upgraded the Norton to meet an immediate requirement and I am loath to uninstall it at this point, hearing for instance what happens when people do. I have three other laptops to play with so I will find the avast alternative for them but at this moment I am underwhelmed by Nortons wow and gee whizes really. I am thinking Norton is for the AOL crowd.

Or Ghost perhaps? Can you actually remove norton now without editing your registry and everything to actually get rid of it?

as far as i know many Windows users don't like to use norton antivirus anymore these days (including myself since norton 2001 or 2002).
it's like you computer are running norton antivirus more than it's running other applications, the norton takes over Windows 'cause it's everywhere, in explorer, in IE, and when you want to remove the norton antivirus from your computer, its uninstaller would do a very clumsy job of it.

the ghost .exe file can fit on a floppy disk, and people uses it from a floppy drive, for many years.

Actually without going into detailed specifics as it bores me even talking about it, Norton Corporate was a very refined Anti Virus in Windows XP days. Many businesses used it (as did I over a large network) and it never affected the machines in the same way the home versions did. the interface was streamlined and the memory usage was significantly lower to suit the business market. When you combined this with the faster updates it was a very good application. It did however cost a small fortune.

Haven't touched it since Vista went final as it originally didn't work. Since then I have had trouble free experiences with the fanastic Avast Pro, which I think is without doubt the best AV out there right now.

As for software based firewall programs I wouldnt touch them, absolutely no need with a properly configured machine and a hardware firewall capable router.

it's a diferent Symantec's product, Z.

i was talking about "norton antivirus" product, it's the Symantec's consumer version, not the Corporate version.

Symantec Corporate products are quite different from Symantec's consumer versions.

----------------

"Norton" name is a Symantec's consumer version of a certain product, like "Norton AntiVirus 2008", "Norton 360",...
these Symantec's products are for Home or Home Office users. - Symantec Home & Home Office Store - Welcome

Here's the Symantec AntiVirus product you mention above and used to use before.... AntiVirus Corporate Edition - Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition: Features - Symantec Corp.

ok and what? aren't we talking about Norton Antivirus products? I don't really care if its called Norton or Symantec Ficklelicker. If it works on installation like an antivirus client, thats what it is and the company are the same core group.

Relax for goodness sake this hardly warrants a debate. I gave Jeff some advise earlier and people are following it up with quite a bit of silly discussion to be honest.

@ Jeff, what was the outcome of your plan? you sticking with Norton 360?

i'm just confused with all that, lol.
i did not realize that i made a reply or a direct response to any of your posts, Zardon.
then until you qouted me, i had to reply to you. and that's about it.
but it seemed to me you didn't like something i said, but what was it?
i mostly read only what Jeff posted before.

anyway, would you recap what is your situation with the computer again, Jeff?
are you still using the norton 360 and it now supports opera okay?
