Both myself and Zardon have the 1000a - which is the 2.4x version...its a great drive, had mine for over a month and not one coaster yet.

It's good that these +r drives are getting cheaper, especially with the 4x speed. The media still costs a lot though.... that really needs to change. My dvd-r/-rw/-ram drive is only 2x and was $200 a few months ago, but the 2x -r media is cheap compared to the +r or 4x -r media. I just wish it never split up like that, making us choose between the - and + burners and media....

Oh well, at least the choices are getting cheaper....

Go to these two places to read some differences:
http://www.dvdplusrw.org/video/comparison.html
http://www.dvdplusrw.org/pc/pccomparison.html

Basically, since dvd+r/rw is newer they were able to incorporate some new features as well as correct some general flaws with dvd-r/rw media. After reading those two articles getting a dvd+r/w drive sounds like a good option, but they don't tell you how much the media itself costs. 2x dvd-r media costs less than a dollar per disk while dvd+r media costs about two dollars, sometimes depending on the brand.
If you plan on burning lots of movies to dvd's, dvd+r/w is a better choice. If you plan on only backing up or transporting tons of files, dvd-r/w is better as it is cheaper per disc. If you need to be able to constently update large amounts of files while keeping originals or basically replace your old zip/syquest drives, dvd-ram is the way to go but the disks will only work in dvd-ram drives.
