new metallica song - day that never comes
Ok ill be the first to admit im not the biggest metallica fan. I loved their early days material but have hated 90% of the things they have released in the last 10 years+
I just heard their new song however on metallica.com - "The Day That Never Comes". and its absolutely kick ass. loads of meaty riffs, nice melody and good guitar work from hammett. Return to form. Quality isnt wonderful but im guessing thats intentional........ check it out. Metallica.com |

I like the track but I do feel sorry for the original hardcore fans that were around when the band first started. Compared to their original sound this is like listening to Kylie or Take That. They are thrash metal no longer. But they are very good. Reminds me of Iron Maiden...

I dont know, I thought it was pretty heavy later in the track. Not trash metal obviously but bear in mind they are maturing. I think its their best track in a very long time tbh.

wow, that is good. I thought metallica had gone limp entirely. thats certainly like the old stuff but in a more melodic "we are getting older" kinda way.
Looking forward to hearing the new album now. |

its listenable, but like lots of Metallica, it has to grow on you a bit.
what can you say about a band that really could call a genre their own. Its got that 80's grind that was missing from their later stuff. I would like to see if the rest of the album redeems itself equally as well.

If you want Thrash Metal go get some Korn or Slipknot lol.
It's a pretty good track, i'm not a metallica fan at all though. *Cranks Drowning Pool* |

the "black Album" was the last album of metaltical that i could enjoy track one to the last track.
everything since has been nit pick. And thier St anger just was horrible imo. But i'll give this song a listen... see what i think.... It would be nice to listen to metallica like they once were.

I did listen it last night few times over and I'm still pondering what to say about it... Perhaps it's just me that is used to the old songs and the more "madder" metallica...

eh? you mean the more "madder" metallica like "nothing else matters"? come on guys lets get real, the dudes are middle aged men. I don't really understand why people always want a band to be playing exactly the same material they were 20 years ago. That would bore me to tears.
I think its a nice thing for a group to mature and change style a little, if you listen to any of the metallica stuff in the last 10 years its virtually pop music, I thought this was a serious return to form with the pretty complex timings in the 2nd section of the song, its melodic yet quite tasty. Nevermind, ill let you all get back to your true hardcore metal like "korn" (no more thrash than bloody twisted sister!). Why is everything classed now in some kind of "metal group"? in my days it was just f'ing rock n roll.

You are spot on the "nothing else matters" part Z. Yeah I realize that they aren't young anymore. But perhaps I need to hear the album to make my mind. So I can see where they are going now. One song can't do that for me. But I do agree that the melody, riffs and the guitar work from Hammett are good.

I used to hate their original sound and felt it was just noise for the sake of nose. For me, that was not rock n roll so I'm glad that they have got 'wiser'.
As far as labels are concerned, hasn't everything got a label? The fact that I felt Metallica was not originally playing rock n' roll made it easier for me to accept their music (if it was musoc at all). It was handy that that the label 'thrash metal' sprung up out of nowehere to save my conscience. Their stuff they played in their middle years was way too 'poppy' and middle-of-the-road. And this new track does appear to be proper rock which means that I do quite like it!

If you dont think there are many "classifications" of metal,
Heavy metal music - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia read the list on the tables in the right....... quite hilarious. |

It seems too simple for them, also seems like their isn't too much thought put into the words. Damn you rehab!
Slipknot is coming out with a new cd too. |

they definitely got thier orginal sound back. It doesn't seem nearly as caculated as st. anger was. I could definitely enjoy thier tunes once again.

Not bad, much better than the "metal country" of the last 8 years. Sounds like it could have been on "the black album". You can tell their getting older though, the drums aren't quite at poppy and the guitar isn't quite as intricate.

and I do aerobic to certain metallica songs. but the older metallica, is most fondly remembered from the adult entertainment clubs in Canada and Korea and Thailand. It seems that no matter where you go, there is a pole dancer entertaining to the rapturous harmonies of Metallica and of course, a brass plated pole, LOL I want to something new from Megadeth soon, but that is another thread I suppose.

Sounds kinda like they tried to reinvent Fade to Black. Its listenable but its too simple for metallica. they also need to use their old equipment, it sounds like they inherited rage against the machines instruments.

i beats the hell out of saint anger, ill say that much.
i used to be a huge metalica fan, but i dunno, this new stuff seems to be something that resembles the old stuff, but its just missing something. the last CD of theirs that i really liked was S&M. ill probably piss off a lot of people by saying this, but i still think S&M is some of the best symphonic metal out there. maybe it had to do with having the San Francisco orchestra playing with them.

I understand they are getting older. I am too. Still, their first 5 albums rocked and everything that has come after that has failed to impress me. The first five albums kicked my ass right from the first note, they didn't have to "grow on me" for me to like them.
I remember way-back-when I was at a park with some friends and I had my boombox blasting out the old radio station called Z-Rock. "The Four Horsemen" came on and I was like, "Who is that? I'm buying their album!" That tune kicked my ass from the very first moment I heard it. And I did just what I said I would do. I bought every album they produced (and loved them) up to and including the black album. But with the black album, I noticed a disturbing change.....their music was starting to lose the intensity. I haven't bought any of their albums since. Oh, I have them all, I just haven't "bought" them, if you know what I mean. Day That Never Comes sounds like they were trying to do fan service to their original fans, but it just doesn't have that special sound to it. The catchy rhythms they used to come up with just aren't there anymore. The raw rending sound of the distortion seems muted. It used to be that there was only a song or two per album that I didn't like, now it's quite the opposite....there is only a song or two per album that I do like....if I like any of the tunes at all. As far as I'm concerned, their music took a turn for the worse the day Cliff Burton died. For me, their last great album was ....And Justice For All. I think Cliff Burton was the true heart of the band. The intensity that used to flow from their fingertips is gone and just sounds forced now. I think they are drowning in their own fame and fortune anymore and are just producing albums for the sole purpose of making money, not for the love of metal they once had. The day they covered "Turn the Page" was the day any last vestiges of faith I had for them died. I mean that was a freakin' country song for god's sake! NO! NO! NO! DO NOT WANT! Metallica, the TRUE Metallica, is dead to me now. |

I would download the content of the next album if there were good workout songs on it, otherwise..but I am more interested in anything by Megadeth, or Paul Rogers, Frank Marino, Satch, Dream Theater, Brian May, Jimmy Page...
you get the picture.
