arrow Let's not forget...

Memorial Day...

And remember the sacrifices that were made by men and women and families in all countries for Freedom. Today I remember fallen comrades, and those that wait for eternal peace, after having given so much for our country, and to protect the lives of Americans abroad, their sacrifices were not in vain.
This morning I remember the solemn vow that we all took so many years ago, it meant a great deal then, and it has not diminished my faith in our nation..
For young men and women today that guard liberty and freedom,
who fight our battles, who keep the peace.
Who put their lives on the line for Freedom everyday.
Who are entombed in marked and unmarked graves.
Who are entombed within the depths of the oceans.
Who perished rescuing survivors in 9/11
Who perished re-entering earths atmosphere.
Today they are all my heros..

May they rest in peace.
A solemn and grateful nation say,
Thankyou

Ahh very nicely said Jeff.
And even though I'm Canadian and celebrated Victoria Day last week.

My heartfelt wishes to all the servicemen in America who gave their lives to help make the World a better place.
And too all the living Vet's such as yourself who still sacrifice so much of their time to help others ..

As appropriate as it may be

General MacArthur, reitired from years of service, addressed the graduatiing class of West Point before he passed away....The address was lengthy and remarkably not self serving, His last words to the cadets was simply this....Old soldiers never die...they just fade away.....

Memorial Day, which was originally called Decoration Day, was first observed in 1868. This day was made significant by our civil war.

However, the southern American states did not honor Memorial Day until after WWI, as they celebrated and remembered their dead on different days.

Thanks for that.

I was just curious as a lot of other countries remember the soldiers on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month (when the armstice was signed to signify the end of WW1 if you don't know your history)
