Last gasp triumph for Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton has clinched the 2008 Formula One World Championship after finishing fifth in an incredible climax to the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Title rival Felipe Massa won the race and appeared to be heading for the title as Hamilton, who needed to finish fifth, dropped to sixth behind Toro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel following a rain shower in the closing stages of the race. ____________ Source: MSN Sport |

Re: Last gasp triumph for Hamilton
That was really tight win if you ask me. If the rain would have been any lighter on the last few turns Lewis would have end up 6th position. But now the lady fortuna was smiling to Lewis.

I agree sometimes luck takes a bigger part than skill or technique. But to win the championship at a second attempt, even though he lost it in last seasons final race due to either being stubborn or Hot Headed. To gain the WC at such a young age surely he is going to become one of the Elite in this sport. |

Re: Last gasp triumph for Hamilton
I'd pay a thousand pounds to watch those cheating Ferrari bastards celebrating in the garage only to be told Lewis had stole it at the last few turns. That made my year that.
Nice to see my team Honda getting in on the celebrations by setting fire to the car at the end, didn't they know it's not bonfire night yet? Ones to watch for next year will definitely be Alonso and Vettel. |

Re: Last gasp triumph for Hamilton
That was just too close!
Some poor calls, they were a lap too late with the dry tyres, and maybe it wouldn't have been quite so fraught if they'd got that right. Oh well, next year, it's back to the BBC for UK coverage, no more tea & P breaks! The question everyone is asking, will "The Chain" be coming back? Other changes for 2009... Slick tyres, kinetic energy recovery, driver adjustable aerodynamic component, and a budget cap (like to see how they intend to calculate & police that!). The trouble with F1 at the moment, is that the one time threat of a rival series never happened, I'd support the one without Ecclestone & Max (S&M) Mosley if it did.

Re: Last gasp triumph for Hamilton
id like the f1 a lot more if everyone drove to their maximum ability and they could kill all the interteam politics. really iritates me.

Re: Last gasp triumph for Hamilton
That was one of the reason Alonso and Hamilton fell out when they were both at McClaren, because Hamilton wouldn't hold back when told to go easy, he'd always go foot to the floor and deserves the Championship just like all previous winners. When you have two brilliant drivers like Raikonnen and Massa driving for the same team, one of em has to be sacrificed for the good of the team, which is a shame. Only way to solve this problem would be to have one driver per team and that aint gonna happen.

Re: Last gasp triumph for Hamilton
If the "medal system" proposed by Bernie Ecclescake had been in use, Massa would have taken it on most wins, one of the few times that the gold/silver/bronze scoring system would actually have changed a major result.
Not a fan of that idea, and while I'd like to see the 1st-2nd points differential brought back to 4 points as it was in the days of 10-6-4-3-2-1, that would also have given it to Massa as the places stood, mind you, McLaren were very much compromising and covering in the last race, they would surely have gone to a more attacking strategy if a higher place had been needed. Maybe with just 10 teams now, points down to 8th are no longer needed, but even then, with two strong teams and one rocksolid one following, with only 6 points paying places, it means the rest rarely get any point to mark them by. Maybe F1 will die eventually, the glory days are long past. It would even benefit from a return to the days when there were two championships in one, Turbo versus non-turbo. Identical this and that is the wrong medicine for F1, it's about differences, technical superiority as well as driver superiority. One thing I would really like to see, is a seperate challenge race/championship with all the F1 drivers competing in an identical car formula.
