its ok, they have the aggression right. just pretty tuneless IMO. and no guitar solos..... its a fresh idea for them, but I think they are pretty stale now.

i had it a couple of days ago. the album is aggressive, just seems a bit too precise (read - protools).

lack of solo's makes me cry.

Crash Override is an unknown quantity at this point

Metallica used to be raw and emotional

Ulrich/Hetfield ruled the scene with their ability to come up with a song that meant something to them

Now this is a lets sit down in the studio with songs and play them all through in one day and kick it out cause we dont care how our fans feel anymore

To paraphrase a famous saying

Metallica Is Dead.

Actually Kirk Hammett's solo's usually do make me cry ....

James Hetfield has been and always will be the better guitar player in that band ....
Check out "Fade to Black" and "Master of Puppets" if your in doubt ....
(decent drummer as well re: Bing and Purge concerts)

Speed isn't everything ... I saw Metallica, GNR and Faith No More in Toronto years ago ....
Kirk butchered Little Wing BAAAADDDD !!!!!
Mick Mars and C.C. Deville would probably of been drooling
(Slash took the Godfather theme to new heights)

I must agree Kirk suits Metallica ... Dave Mustane never would have worked out ....
BUT I have always expected more from Kirk being a former student of Joe Satriani ...
He has about as much feel as Malmsteen but that is covered HERE !!!

Sorry just being HONEST GUYS .................. "And Justice for All ..." was the last real Metallica album
Although the "Black" album wasn't bad ... It did seal there commercal sellout FATE !!!!

Mac Daddy .... Metallica Fan since I bought "Ride the Lightening" on cassette the year it came out

what do you think of rob trujillo as their bassist? that guy can really thump, and it seems like he's had quite an influence on metallica's new sound.

i go along with that Mac Daddy up till the part where you said the Black album wasn't that bad ... i have to disagree strongly .... when it first came out i bought it on cd listened to it once ... then i threw it in the bin with disgust ... pop p1sh ... and i'll never buy another Metallica album ever again

Ride The Lightning is my all time fave Metal album

I just picked up this album tonight.

I have to say it sounds like Metallica is getting back to their roots, but it's still no Master of Puppets.

I've only the St. Anger track (the second on the album if I'm not mistaken), and the sound could be better.
The snare drum sound like crap, and they've used a very wierd compressor setting.
But...it shure gives that crunchy and wild song, which although suits the song.

It has been said that they only used three microphones on the drums....don't now if that's true but....

It helps if you turn it up really really really loud.
