Hey there fellows!
Long time since my last post, how ya'll doing?

...And to business:
I'm currently thinking about buying a game console. My mind is hanging between PS3 and XBOX360 Elite.
In matter of the price, everything is quite the same for me, if you consider the expances of an extra controller, rechargable batteries and a WIFI controller for the XBOX, it turns out around the same price.
So, what is the question you ask? I'm not sure which one to get, if at all!
I think that the XBOX actually saves money in matters of games, if you put on the chip, which is exactly what PS3 misses.
On the other end, maybe I should wait for the next Console to come, if there is anything coming anytime soon :-\

To the original question, buy one now and don't wait. The next generation might take at least a couple of years. While now there are (at least for the Xbox 360 that I know) several bundles with different specs depending on what you want and hundrents of good games out there. Why wait?

Yes dont wait thats what i say as well, and not to seem like am bashing but don't get a PS3 Get an Xbox360 coz the games are more or at least here they are am not sure about Israel!

If you are a serious gamer (by that I mean you will play it online often and and game at least 20 hours a week) then you should definitely buy a console. Right now. The Xbox 360 is clearly the better choice due to the wider game library but take whichever you can afford there will be enough games to keep you busy until you've got the cash for a 2nd system.

The only good reasons not to buy a console are:
-No internet for online gaming
-Have a powerful gaming PC
-No time for gaming
-You'd rather be out with women and socializing with people who aren't angry pubescent teen aged boys

Have to disagree, they wouldn't be pouring money into the new features announced at E3 if they are planning to release a new system. Same with the xbox system revisions, they would have given them all up if a new system was on the cards. I can't see the xbox 360 being replaced for 2-3 years.

i don't know, the concept of being able to trial and error an initial new system through the previous generation and apply tweaks and fixes plus better capabilities to a newer one would be dream for most companies. And system revisions were kinda necessary....

There's not going to be another Xbox until late next year at the earliest, it's still going strong and just starting to get on the bandwagon for peripherals with Wii style functionality. The PS3 is still out of reach for many people price wise and there's just no reason business wise to rush out a new Xbox when the current one is running games with the same eye candy (or better) than the PS3. Hard to believe it's been almost 5 years since the 360 came out (I just got one this year) and a new console should technically be around the corner but honestly I don't think there's really a demand for it to begin with.

the major demand for a new console is true 1080p or higher resolution support.... with the number of games being produced that increase eye candy at the cost of the resolution.... it's actually quite glaring.

I think it is mostly you and your very high resolutions that is this "major demand".

I disagree with the 3.
-Apart from the first time when I bought my first console and the free gold subscription, I never used the system to play online. Still enjoy it very much, play many good games on it and don't feel any need to play online yet.
-I have 2 powerful PCs (well, one is far better but still) and although my majority of gaming is done on a PC (wargams, sims, strategy games, FPS, RPGs), I still manage from time to time to play on a console, 360 and almost every day few min of DS Lite.
-This is in two parts. First, you might prefer to be out with women and/or socialising, but for some reason it can't happen. Two, you can prefer to do so, be able to, and do so, and still have time for gaming.
The "angry pubescent teen aged boys" is only valid if you want to play only online. And even then you can disable their voices, so...

i doubt that..

cause with the prices of even 1080p 52" tv's becomeing very very affordable, even if they are chunk for lower models that are dirt cheap, those big tv's really start to show the glaring issues of either high resolution gameplay with lack of graphical eye candy or high eye candy that is soured by the low resolution it's running.

Personally i find a huge difference between 480p and 1080p when the game supports it.. and anyone that sees it.. wants it.

i wasn't specifically talking about beyond that.... i was talking about being able to sustain 1080p resolution throughout games... at which point there is actually VERY few that do this at all, or DO but without near the eye candy that most would expect..... simply because the systems just aren't powerful enough to do it..

i mean look at the HD4870 and Nvidia GTX260... how well they do at 1080p resolutions....

an HD4870 or GTX260 is FAR more powerful then what's in either the PS3 or xbox360....essentially nvidia 7xxx and ati radeon Xxxx series modified gpu's.

I agree with you blumak, the difference between 480p and 1080p is 720p which the 360 handles perfectly well with a quality that manages to satisfy 99.9% of people.
Anything else is just pissing up a wall for bragging rights, I havent met a single person who has been able to point out graphical differences between xbox and ps3 games, and i'm talking normal average people not tech-nerds who study detail with a magnifying glass.

Clearly the next generation of Playstation and Xbox will be able to do 1080p games on par with current PC video cards but I don't think that's really a factor in pushing out a new system. The graphics need to age enough so that the systems can no longer keep up with the software capabilities, that's how it happened with the PS2 and Xbox. So far just about every eye candy game for the PC can be ported to the consoles and still look pretty good. We're at least a couple years away from games on console not even being remotely as good looking as their PC cousins.

well the orginal xbox was still pushing some noticeably good graphics to.... considering the date when the xbox first came out and then the xbox360... i don't think it's at all far fetched in considering that a new one could arrive as early as within the next year and a half

Ok I think 2015 is pushing it a bit but I certainly don't think we'll see one in the next year - year and a half.

I'd say we'll get info (probably leaked) on the next Xbox in late 2011 but it probably won't hit until Fall 2012. The Playstation I expect will take even longer to step up a generation since it's been so slow to gain acceptance.

Let's not forget that the Nintendo Wii taught the game giants a valuable lesson: power and graphics capabilities don't translate into more sales. This is the major reason I think we will have the 360 and PS3 around for a few more years as the emphasis is on new peripherals and gaming breakthroughs rather than the console hardware itself.

Leaks about 360 development began nearly two full years before the 360 launch, and since we haven't heard anything about a successor to the 360 yet, I figure we've got at least two years of leeway.

BTW, in matters of surviving time of the console itself, I tend to think that the current consoles will survive alot of time and meny more years. Why? because the people STILL play PS2 games, why not play 360 and PS3 till 2015?? Makes sense right?

oh no doubt.. there are people still playing NES and older consoles... not as many obviously.... but even the orginal Xbox is still being used, no new games though for it...

The only reason the PS2 is going is due to new games popping up on...

Only side is Xbox you have pay online to play and PS3 is free online Thats why I went with ps3 even for the blue ray . Plus I herd at E3 that XBOX going be next to ps3 for couple more years because they want to match with PS3 10 year comment. If you want blu ray go with ps3 lol.
