Last time I installed Winamp (it was some 5.xx version) I could choose what components to install. Leaving just the basics and the classic skin makes Winamp far from being bloated.

I installed FooBar out of curiousity and can't seem to see the appeal with its very simple interface. Why's FooBar okay?

For starters it's open source, so it's completely free. Can also be completely modified to your liking so it can be as simple or complex as you like, there's also the great community for it that constantly churn out plugins to further customise the player.

Also the name is great

Re: Your Preferred Music Player?

Itunes. Why? because it works well via front row so ive it pumped though my HD tv and mako speakers. Music/videos, all accessible by a little remote from the sofa - easy times.

I agree, the name's intriguing. As to it being open source, I can see the attraction to anyone wanting to tweak and customize their player...

Re: Your Preferred Music Player?

foobar2000 is also light on resources, even when playing back lossless audio. Lossless support is also the main reason I use it. I've seen players use of resources skyrocket when playing back files encoded in FLAC or APE. SUre, WMP is about 5mb lower playing FLAC files, but can it play a CUE file? I have FLAC files that are single files, and I can load the CUE file for it, which has the track names and times. I can also extract the tracks into whatever format I want (such as mp3 or wav).

I use headphones for all my PC audio work, and one thing I find with foobar2000 is that the audio is cleaner sounding when I play using it, and even better when using Kernel playback (or WASABI in Vista). The drawback to this is that with foobar you can hear the flaws. Some players, such as WinAMP, will compensate for flaws, such as pops, or warped audio in mp3s, but foobar doesn't. 'Course, this is a good thing for me as the audio I listen to I also listen to on my Sony MP3 player, and it doesn't compensate either. I'd hate to be sitting there listening to a song, and have a loud pop go off, so this way I know if there's a problem or not.
