Inventions, Contraptions, and Jerry-Rigs

Driverheaven is a technical community, no doubt about it. As such, its members are interested in how machines work and, whether or not its recognizable, ride a tangent to a true art form in some of the work that's done.

Throughout the years, many DH'ers have made some cool things, of this I'm sure, so why don't we show them off? Sometimes your significant other just doesn't care about the painstaking labor you've put into something trying to get it to work and maybe your efforts have fallen on deaf ears. This is the pace to get some of that sweet succulent street cred.

Sure it might be ugly, sure it might be covered in duct and electrical tape, but sometimes thats the way genius manifests itself, right?

To start it off, here's something real simple:

I'm a sort of musical junkie. The problem was that I wanted some music while I took my showers. As an avid fan of Last.fm, I wanted to find a solution that would let me stream my playlists.

What I did was I had a Nokia n810 laying around that hadn't been getting used as much as it had in the past and I was contemplating selling it.

Instead I used the following:

Nokia N810 internet tablet with Vagalume Last.fm client
Wallmount that came with the N810
30 watt amplifier my company had designed
A little speaker I had found in an attic
A speaker mount I made out of
electrical tape
metal brackets from some windows blinds
a pen
some random screws
kleenex
Some speaker wire
Power cords

This was the end-result:

Yeah, I haven't gotten the fallout issue taken care of yet, but I'm just hoping for cool powers and not death. It's a 50/50 thing, really.

I lost one of the mounting bolt things for my old X1550 and put a big 1.5" screw there instead for about 20 minutes while i looked?

It even worked when i decided to commit technical suicide and fire the system up with it installed... with screw still installed
