Re: michael jackson dead ??
I honestly can't think of a bigger worldwide celebrity than Michael Jackson. He had the global appeal of a pop star, a fanbase as devoted as Elviss and people loved him like they would a world leader at the height of their popularity. If you can think of a person that is being mourned from America to Zimbabwe you're welcome to try
![]() I used to take a lot of flak from friends and coworkers when I put on Michael Jackson's albums but I'm only happy to remind them that at his peak he was the coolest person on the planet and not there's not a musician today that even comes close to measuring up to MJ at his best. He could have had anything he wanted but shunned all of that so he gets my respect.

Re: michael jackson dead ??
That's the feeling I got, which is why I posted my earlier comment, So many celebs dying and this... MJ Dying? WTF!!!!!! It makes me want to scream, I mean I realized he's got a little odd with age, but I loved his music. Despite you know the majority turning against him with the scandals he had to endure... He is sorely missed. Did you See the ET Photo? Made me sad..der. Was sort of a tear jerker moment for me. like damn.

Re: michael jackson dead ??
really sad...
undoubtly the biggest musician ever, if we consider his worldwide popularity in the 80s and 90s, no matter whether in major capitals of the world, or small villages in africa, or elsewhere - everyone knew him. therefore there's no comparison between him and let's say elvis presley for instance appliable imo... the gros popularity makes him definitely unbeatable, worldwide, ever. my first MC ever was his, when i got it at the age of 3 or 4 (still got it - now theres some cleaning and putting to a "better" place due), he was my childhood's one and only music idol. i just can't understand how so many people (at least here in europe - austria) only can pound accusations and insults on him now that he's gone. he was a genius and everything else is neglectable - yes i do believe the accusations were entitled, but on one side he was a genius, on the other a very poor guy with an extremely hard childhood, and this left a little kid live on inside him, and other psychic anomalities, no matter how older he got. still, there's absolutely no reason to mention that now, but unfortunately a big part of them belong to the - constantly getting bigger - amount of people in europe that only can disrespect everything that comes from the US. Re: michael jackson dead ??
I have his Number Ones on the playlist. Listening to it for the last couple of hours. I even shed a tear or two earlier. ffffffff.
Michael never molested a kid. All bullshit from greedy worthless parents. Now, Michael was indeed not 100% ok up there. He was like a child. I am certain that the night or two he spent with those kids, nothing naughty took place. Perhaps he slept with them, but no sex or weird touching. He was a kid, he was an innocent and tormented soul. Feeling very sad.

Re: michael jackson dead ??
Quite sad that no matter what threads or news you read online that people always mention the child molestation aspects of his life. It is a sad indication of how he will be remembered in many ways.
Would be nice just to see people paying tribute to his music (especially from the 80's when he was at his peak) and remember the positive things. Human nature I guess. He is in a better place, thats for sure. |

Re: michael jackson dead ??
I've been a fan of his since I was 12 or so - we're the same age, both born in 1958. The news of his passing is a shock indeed, but hopefully he is finally at peace - something all of his fans know he was sorely searching and striving for the past decade especially.
He was a meticulous artist and performer - his recordings during the 80's were of the highest technical quality, and the music he made struck a cord with more people than any musical artist in history. He struck a cord with me with this perfectly melodic and poetic refrain that will stay with me my whole life: From "Man in the Mirror" I'm starting with the man in the mirror, I asking him change his ways... And no message could have been any clearer: If you want to make the world a better place Take a look at yourself and make that change. Rest in Peace, Michael Jackson - you were so Bad...

Re: michael jackson dead ??
ok well I guess thats your view and im certainly not going to argue the point as I would say a lot of his behaviour in recent years has been rather weird, to say the least.
I do think he gave a lot however within the entertainment industry and I can certainly appreciate his talent when I was growing up in the 80's. I dont think ill ever forget huddling around the TV with a few friends and my family to catch the first viewing of the Thriller video on top of the pops. Epic stuff. As I said, sad the way many people see him now and I can understand why some people would feel it, but I just look at him as an entertainer who rewrote a lot of the rules in the 80's. Would be nice if we could keep this thread on Driverheaven as a little tribute to the man rather than debating his weaknesses outside the entertainment industry however. he is dead after all. |

Not even sure he molested any kids, and I agree wit Z, no need to discuss the aye's and ney's in this thread. It's too bad he died, I liked his music since I was a little kid.

Re: michael jackson dead ??
I have been listening to some of his classics to and from work today... Most are classics...
On the way home today, does anyone remember in the younger days of MJ... Ben What a tear jerker ![]() (BTW this is the first time i have used the Youtube tags,If it dont work Sorry) what has taken me by surprise today,As MJ surpased Super/Mega star status (and after all this was earned due to pure tallant alone) after taling to some one today (Past 2 pm today) i mentioned he died yesterday. The look on her face when i said was one of those not of shock but thought i was joking about his death..She even had to look on the tv to confirm what i told her.. It's just so strange to see this news on every single Newspapers Front Page/Radio Station/TV News Channel for some one not to know of this news. Despite of some of the past news He was and will always be a Legend towards Music. (And im sorry but there is no comparison to MJ (not Convicited) to Gary Glitter (Convited) imo.It always been a fact that if your found Not Guilty in Court they are always Guilty in the Public Eye.Would the same be said if the roles was reversed) Last edited by MIG-31; Jun 26, 2009 at 06:46 PM. |

Re: michael jackson dead ??
for some poeple MJ's rise and fall in the media spotlight was analagous to what is so wrong with Pop culture. I am glad you found the Ben video as moving as I did.
I dont care for the blitz on his fame and fortune and wierd problems, I only cared about the music. I think Quincy Jones became a better producer and musician because of MJ.

Thanks Jeff... You know sometimes the most simplistic song such as Ben can give a great impact...
This is one song i feel you have to really listen to the words...Once you hear them you do know who your true freinds are. |

Re: michael jackson dead ??
What is so wonderful, is that it has outlived the movie of the same name. I recall very warmly this song, for whatever reason, it resonates, and I dont care if it sits in my collection along with Frank Sinatra and James Taylor and Henry Gross, it is just well produced and performed, and IMO, timeless
I guess that makes me a bit EMO according to my daughter, but there it is.

Re: michael jackson dead ??
Nice looking through some of these positive posts and videos I remember well. Even in the 80's Michael was far ahead of his time musically I feel.
As far as I am concerned Michael was to pop music what Black Sabbath was to metal an icon to be remembered through his music and vision.

Re: michael jackson dead ??
60 days and they have yet to give him the funeral. He is still not buried. I heard that his father is behind it, but I don't have any specific reasons or facts about why he is treated like this.
