AC/DC - Hampden - 30th June

It was hot, it was sticky, the unventilated coach journey was reminiscent of a roman bath house, but my god did the boys make it worthwhile!

OK, the lack of Thin Lizzy due to Aldridge's broken collar bone was a bit of a setback - and although their replacement 'The Subways' were OK, they didn't really seem suited to stadium rock.

All was forgiven however when Angus and the gang took to the stage, rolling in on the 'Rock 'n' Roll Train', the next two hours were sheer magic and everything you would expect from Acca Dacca.

The most surprising thing for me was the sheer energy of these guys at their age, they played for 2 hours straight through, no break - Angus must have lost about 2 stone by sheer water loss alone, and the capacity crowd loved every moment of it. A few tracks from the new album but most of the stuff was the classics from their career, Back in Black, Hell's Bells, TNT, and whole lotta Rosie (accompanied by a 30ft inflatable Rosie - which there was a whole lot of!) to name but a few.

The highlight for me was the encore, the Young brother's hometown was treated to the strains of 'Loch Lomond' before the band launched into 'Highway to Hell' - my personal favourite AC/DC track - and it would appear the favourite of Hampden as well, the crowd went berserk and Glasgow shook as 50,000 singing fans bounced in unison. Highway was followed by 'For Those About To Rock' complete with cannon fire and a short fireworks display to close an amazing night...

To AC/DC, and on behalf of all those that rocked, I would just like to say - we salute you!
