Pissed Nooooooo!!!!

My Sony GDM-F520 has just developed a crack in its glass! This monitor was over 1500$ 2 years ago, now its gonna completely die. This isn't any fun at all. How long do you think it will last before the glass breaks?

I am relatively sure that glass can be replaced. Probably a quite a bit of cost, but not $1200. Good luck!

If your lucky it is still under warrenty (3 years). Sony might replace/repair it for you if you kept your reciept. Of course that depends on how it got cracked. And I wouldn't risk getting your brain fried by the internal parts of the CRT (There is a reason for the glass being so thick).

My being cheap is coming back to bite me, this is an oem monitor with no warrenty. The monitor just cracked on its own, nothing damaged it.

I'm not sure if Sony really cares about if you bought it OEM or not. They make no mention of it on their web page. (Some other companies do like Maxtor).

use this like to see how much it would cost to repair your monitor..

Good luck..

glass cracking?

this is a serious manufacturer defect. I believe your entitled to a refund or replacement, repair is not an economical alternative unless you have a disposible income.

Luckily I've never had any problems with oem products. But then again, I rarely buy oem. The only oem I have bought recently was 2 hard drives off Newegg and I havn't had a single problem with them. Something like a monitor however, I would not buy OEM. I bought a Viewsonic monitor about 2 months ago and it came DOA. Although Newegg has a limited OEM warranty, I don't think Viewsonic would have paid shipping to replace an oem monitor and I wouldnt have wanted to pay $40 to ship this back to newegg. So the extra money for retail does payoff.
