Upgraded my DJ rig (again)

Well after receiving my tax return and backpay from a payrise 2 months ago, I've upgraded my DJ rig again.

Like Big T, I had a Behringer BCD3000 DJ midi controller/audio interface. It wasn't bad for a first laptop rig, but it wasn't exactly good either - the build quality of the unit, jog-wheels especially, left a lot to be desired.

Rather than pick up another console based setup like the Hercules Big T got (which was rather tempting), I wanted something a little more club-portable (club DJ consoles don't exactly have much spare room) and I missed the sound of my old Tascam mixer.

So yesterday I took a trip to my favourite gear store, and purchased a pair of EKS XP5s - small, light (only 370g) and portable, with a nice touch-sensitive jog wheel and full transport controls, and a two-channel audio interface that plugs into an existing mixer (at home or at a club)

I do miss the extra knobs the Behringer had, as I use that for filter/fx control, but not very often, I'm considering getting a small 4 knob controller for that purpose down the track

Also I upgraded from Traktor 3 LE to Traktor Pro, for extra control

So my setup now consists of:

Macbook Air 1,1
USB hub
2 EKS XP5 Controller/Interfaces
2 Stanton T.80 Turntables
Tascam XS-3 Mixer
Sennheiser HD25-1 Headphones
Traktor Pro

As you can see from the photos, I've got the XP5s sitting on my turntables, that'll change - just need to build a little shelf extension where the headphones are sitting

not really, it sits above and just behind a little, just covers the top of the mixer

Re: Upgraded my DJ rig (again)

for someone with a back problem and who's going to have to cart two of 'em around to gigs, along with my laptop, it's perfect

big & heavy is good for an installation - stuff that's not going anywhere

i have a back problem too... i guess i just have a masochistically prone personality... LOL

but seriously though, i really like to carry my 500 CDs on partys... don't know why, but i've never been too fond of notebooks and DJ gear that is somehow USB or FireWire connected to a notebook...

i know that the technology is going in that direction and that pretty soon all turntables will be replaced with plastic USB connected lite MIDI controllers... i guess i'm a little oldfashioned... when i started going to partys, almost every sound was a pure analogue derivat of the turnatables needle...

anyway... i never did congratulate you on your new equipment... congrats, and may this pair of MIDI controllers be the driving force of many more partys...

I know all about bad backs and lugging speaker cabinets and sound equipment

Nice addition to the setup Chris clean and functional
