My dad swears by Kef speakers, he's using them for our home cinema setup downstairs. the only thing it's missing is a kick ass TV :P

I've been rather impressed with my Kef iQ9's and my 2 pairs of iQ1's. But now I can finally do a full 7.1 surround.

I use ebay quite a lot actually.And i have hardly had any problems at all..

the reason they are cheaper is the cut out the middle man so to speak..As in all the sale person pay etc..

Lowfat, that is a wicked centre channel speaker. I immediately want one but upon doing a price search for that model found that is $700! I think I will settle for a surround package (perhaps the Klipsch Quintet III) and use my Z-5500 to power them; no point in getting a new receiver when I'm not gonna crank the volume that high.

Also, here's a better pic of my Samsung Plasma with the Z-5500's. I'd like to swap out those Logitech speakers for something around the same size but better quality.

Well, It's new to me at least......... Sony ECM-673 condenser mic. Got this at the surplus electronics store this morning....... Works perfect, tiny scratch in the paint and some compression marks in the foam windscreen......

$5.00...........

Got a pair of 4" mids for my monitors in the loft too.... Buck each

(no pics, sorry I installed them immediately.)

Surplus is amazing....

Just for recording my own stuff here at home, I've got a setup in the basement,keys/drums/Guitar & Bass amps, and another in the loft for mixing/finalizing, vst stuff, things like that.

this will be my first condenser mic, (Got several old dynamics around, mostly Shure) I checked online after I got this for $5 and they sell for a couple hundred

I knew it was a deal, but not that good a deal.......

I think so, they like a pair of gloves and knuckle duster combined. The padded knuckle area has about 4 oz (I think) of steel powder, like little ball ball bearings and the idea is you buy a tight fitting pair and when you clench your fist the powder forms a hard layer around your knuckles. I think they for riot control but the company doesnt manufacture these ones any more.

I have another cheaper pair which are a lot heaveier and contain a lot more meatal around the knuckle area but they'd be scary to use in a fight, crushed jaw bones guaranteed, but the Hatch versions are way nicer fitting and are made with real soft leather so I can go sado-masochistic on my enemies! :P

Can't find my camera to take a pic of the box or the setup but I decided to make the leap into a real home theater (rather than my Z-5500) and got an Onkyo HT-S6100 7.1 Home Theater in a Box.

It sounds great and doesn't need to produce extraordinary bass while doing so which makes my neighbors happy.

Onkyo make some qaulity AV gear. Does that reciever do sound through HDMI or do you have to hook up separate optical cables for the sound?

It does indeed do HDMI sound (DTS HD & TrueHD included) which is great because all my optical and coaxial cables are too short to go from my pc to receiver so I connected my motherboard spdif to the GTX285 and it's outputting HDMI DTS/DD signals to the receiver just fine.

I also bought an Antec Veris AV Cooler which I will be setting up tomorrow since the Onkyo receiver runs about as hot as an SLI setup in load

Looks good Omega,, I was trying to make the leap into decent home theatre gear, but sort of lost my track with all the research and stuff..good how you just get in and get it done

What brand are those speakers that came with it?

Everything that comes with it is made by Onkyo. That way you don't have to spend any extra time matching components. From the research I've done (mostly after buying it) it looks like this is the best home theater in a box under $1000. All you need to do is plug in the calibration mic and it runs tests for 10 minutes then everything is tweaked for perfect sound. Almost takes the fun out of it...almost.

It's a huge box as you can see
