I like computers.

For me, since I use Windows XP, it's almost always disabling Indexing Service.

Re: What is the first OS setting you change after a reformat?
Well, I use HyperOS, so re-installing an OS for me is a RARE event.
With Vista and Win 7 it's turning off UAC, as HyperOS does not like it, nor do I for that matter ![]() With HyperOS, I do one basic install with the basic necessary drivers and any applications that I will need in all systems, and then just copy it to other partitions to install the specific aplications that I want to use that partitio. I keep one 'basic' install of each OS (XP, Vista WIN7) and never use them unless I need to copy them.

For Vista it's the UAC which is a pointless system imo.Followed by the side bar...

Re: What is the first OS setting you change after a reformat?
Adding hotkeys to a number(40+) of shortcuts so that I can navigate the system like I'm used to. I used to utilise a program called The Wonderful Icon for that but now that it's been out of print for many years I've reverted to Windows' own function that's been around since Win95. For instance:
CTRL ALT Num0 = Computer (all drives) CTRL ALT C = C:\ drive CTRL ALT Num+ = Recycle Bin CTRL Num0 = Hide/Show desktop icons (third party exe) CTRL Num1 = Mail CTRL Num+ = Calculator ALT Num0 = Put monitor to sleep (third party exe) ALT Num+ = Volume Mixer ALT Num- = WinAMP |

Re: What is the first OS setting you change after a reformat?
I install the Nvidia drivers, disable UAC, and reboot. Then I tweak thoroughly and update, and reboot again. Then I move onto software installations

Re: What is the first OS setting you change after a reformat?
it has to be disabling the system restore! Don't like it for the same reasons Judas mentioned

Re: What is the first OS setting you change after a reformat?
If it's Vista, then I uninstall the OS and put in W7
. Seriously though, I don't change anything. I usually get straight to installing drivers and software. As annoying as UAC is, it doesn't really bother me much. Just lets me practice my reflexes (I try and hit the "Allow" button as quick as I can whenever I get a prompt).

Re: What is the first OS setting you change after a reformat?
The very first thing I absolutely need to do after installing Windows is change the wallpaper. But before Vista I basically hacked away at the controls until I was forced to restart to accept changes.

Re: What is the first OS setting you change after a reformat?
sh!t yeah, forgot about that
![]() that is the very first thing I do ![]() usually play with gpedit and tidy a couple things up straight way too (yeah, I'm still on xp pro. vista and I didn't get along..) 3rd up would probably be installing opera then mess with a couple of the default sounds (i really do hate a couple of them, especially that 'logon' sound )

Re: What is the first OS setting you change after a reformat?
On both XP and Windows 7, for me it is: à
- Enabling quick launch - Disabling icons align to grid - Enabling "Restore previous folder windows at logon" (I do all three manually at first logon while my batch file silently installs all my applications and user profiles and reg tweaks, etc... have not found a way to enable these programatically yet so need to do manually). |

Re: What is the first OS setting you change after a reformat?
For Vista and Win 7 I go straight for msconfig and disable UAC.
