[NSFW] Anti-Piracy Screwing Gamers Over

This man right here, known as NicotineAlien originally before his account went poof under the youtube banhammer is my favourite voice of gamers all around the world like you or me that have been beaten and left in a ditch by invasive or obtrusive DRM.

I'm on my last Bioshock install now and i'm NOT forking out £20 in phone bills to speak to some retard on the other end. To be honest i think i'd rather go find a crack or a way to reverse engineer it.

Only in cases like this do i endorse software piracy, when it's totally unusable due to obtrusive DRM.

Enjoy the video of this wiseman explaining how it is in the real world of pc gaming.

[NSWF - Swearing... excessively.... very excessively]

I agree with his points but that boy needs to chill the f*** out. All this Securom stuff is not worth the disk space it's coded onto. Has there ever been a game that has successfully beaten the hackers?

I am on a tight budget and buy very few games. The only game I am planning on buying in the near future is Batman but I will have to see what kind of protection it has on it. I may download the cracked version and just buy the game to put on the shelf. I'd buy because I believe if developers are prepared to create something good they should be rewarded for it but I don't want invasive rootkits and pointless software burying itself in my registry.

I agree with the guy.
I can't wait to see his response when games that require authentication start biting him.

He could just get a bloody life and quit being such a wanker about what happened to him.
I mean he's really over the edge. When the industry is taking it out on the honest folks then I think people should spend their money on fish and chips oir an afternoon at the movies. He NEEDS TO GET A LIFE.... he is acting like a tosser and should grow up and find something more interesting...LIKE WOMEN or whatever gets him off and stop getting wound oup over games.
If Sierra or Blizzard or Activision pissed me off, I just stop buying and using their games, products or serves...pretty much a done deal and I dont act like a flaming asshole on youtube to make a point, I just stop using the product.

Fallstaff you only say these things because you are not an active gamer and of course not the one who bought the games.

Re: [NSFW] Anti-Piracy Screwing Gamers Over

with all due respect, your making an assumption. I tried gaming for a bit, and whether I am active or not, the chap is more than a little over the top.
My argument whether you accept it or not, is that he should find something else to do. It isnt about the industry, more like his frustration, and inability to grasp the obvious.
I think he is the voice for stupidty.
If your unhappy about something and you cant change it, then manage your own expectations.
When it comes to something like gaming, if he is unhappy, he should adapt, nothing could be more simpler.
but then it is just a vid about someone who is unhappy about a problem with his bloody game.
It dosent matter one bloody bit whether I bought them game or not, after watching that rubbish you can damn well better believe I wont now...
this chap is a wanker.

Hey, don't get me wrong, i wouldn't make such a video. I would just use illegal copies from this publisher for the rest of my life. But while his language is over the top, I don't believe he shouldn't react in any way he felt it was best for him, including the clip above.
And I am not making any assumption about your gaming habits. You have said it yourself in at least a couple of occasions you don't play games.

I dont use illegal anything...
I think companies that market and sell their products should get paid.
by the same token, if a company makes shiite software, then people should walk.
the industry might be taking liberties with consumers, but they know the market very very well.

Good luck getting a refund for a game after you open it, after you have played it, after X amount of time. No, seriously, good luck.
It's one thing to not buy AGAIN, something, but a different to get your money back. So yes, companies that treat their customers as criminals can go and fudge themselves with...stuffing.

Funny story, I had an arcadey flight sim by codemasters. Bought it while I had an XP, but never got to install it till recently. Installed fine but couldn't for the life of me run. I contacted codemasters and they said the game does not support Vista. Basically a big "fuck you" to me that bought it.
Call it intuition, or whatever, I tried a nocd file. WOW, it worked. The copy protection garbage was that causing the problem, not the game itself. Basically Codemasters are calling their own games not good enought, not working under X, for a piece of software that is not even theirs. FUNNy. I would be upset over this, but luckily (in a weird way), the game sucks. Still, it gave me food for thought after the Insane fiasco. What is that you ask? A couple of years ago Codemasters decided to give away to members of Code M free "copies" (digital) of the game Insane, a very nice racer. I tried it and liked it. As usual for me, I tried the game only last month for the second time. The first time was when I dowloaded it.
The game now refused to authenticate online for reaching the limit. They put a limit on a free game, lol. I didn't take it too seriously because I didn't pay for it, but once again it makes you think.

You realize Bioshock has had unlimited installs for well over a year now?

if a game company sells rubbish games because they cant get installed, then I say bugger the company and play something else. if you absolutely have to play a game and your willing to do anything to get it, then quietly enjoy your success, but if you rant or whine about a game like that fellow in the vid, then there is a fundamental flaw in that person's character. Mental Masturbation and gaming go hand in hand so if it gets excessive, then it is time to push away and go for a walk or meet people or visit a library or for Gods Sake, find something productive to do.

Re: [NSFW] Anti-Piracy Screwing Gamers Over

Consumers should stand up for their rights. The attitude that if you don't like it do something else is weak. What if all television providers decided their TVs would only receive certain channels or all car manufacturers decided they would limit the speed of their vehicles to 50mph. Do you say - just put up with it or walk or do you call 'bullshit' and get it changed back.

DRM software is pointless and only screws legit consumers therefore there is no need for it.

While i agree excessive gaming is ridiculous, you're completely missing the point here Jeff. This guy bought FEAR, TWICE so he's been screwed out of at least $60 because he can't play the game he legally bought in the first place.

the whole reason falls back into secuROM's hands because it treated him like a criminal and stopped him playing a game he legally bought and legally owns. This is why piracy is rampant these days more than ever, he even says at the end go download the pirated version at least you won't get screwed over by the secuROM.

edit - to be honest another thought's just crossed my mind, i seriously doubt this invasive generation of DRM has anything to do with anti piracy because it's removed by 5 minutes of reverse engineering. I think it's a marketing scam to make people buy the game again because it makes them think they have a dud copy.

I say screw retail pc games until this generation/plague of DRM is vanquished forever.

the problem with this ideology is, that even if you by yourself decide to not buy a product, it does absolutely nothing to affect their bottom line. Because millions of idiots will still buy it even if it's draconian DRM shite still pisses everyone off. The only way to actually get action IS TO PISS everyone off through installation which is why the Sony Root-kit pretty much led to the demise of DRM in music. Personally I think companies waste more money investing in anti-piracy solutions then they save by "forcing" pirate to buy their crap. (Because if a pirate or any "thief" truly wants it for free, he/she/it will find a way) I really dislike the fact that DRM has even come to this point, and companies do deserve profits for good games, but personally I am FOR no-cd cracks for the SAME REASONs I am against DRM. It allows people to bypass the bullshit when they pay for a product. When a "Pirated" Release functions better then it's retail product, your company seriously F***ed up.

I think calling common sense an idealogy is flattering, but like all things that we might covet, or possess or just indulge in, there must be a limit, if not for frustrating software or terribly equipment or even sub standard OS's the consumer can walk away or find something better. If not one or more it matters to the person that is tired of the BS.
Its like those bloody Alienware laptops or computers, perfectly good products in their own right, but very overpriced and rather a gimmick waitng for a market to happen. I noticed the fellow in the vid had an Alienware computere that he felt comfortable filming.
Games, fancy computers, hardware, its all good, in moderation, but for some it is a drug and some go through a bit of withdrawl I think.

If Sierra or Blizzard or Activision pissed me off, I just stop buying and using their games, products or serves...pretty much a done deal and I dont act like a flaming asshole on youtube to make a point, I just stop using the product.

to bad the "real life" involves getting raped in other fashions via the very food you eat to the cars you drive to the bloody resturants you eat at..

The guy has a point, he's making it a little over the top clear.... and to get the point across unfortunately today, you have to overact on it or else the video/point gets shoved into the "boring" pile..

I mean there is only so many videos one can watch that are monotonious and fact to fact. He puts a very good amount of pointing out how generally all of us will react in similare senarios...

Re: [NSFW] Anti-Piracy Screwing Gamers Over

Game companies put DRM on the mechanics of software due to the fact that it creates mental illness if they allow over use of it. Their ideas have become limited and the PC pop is getting desperate for decent gaming. So DRM "bad" games to halt excessive use and prevent mental retardation and there fore community social collpase. A bad game is a bad game DRM says so. When 2012 hits and the new world order rises companies will have to pull their thumbs out to create decent entertainment or face the inevitable truth that their audience has left the palnet. Ju7st my 2 cents.
