Re: Where in the world?
I was a techie at one of those stores but I wasnt a dum dum, though people would come in with really weird requests like they want a CPU(confusing the processor and the desktop)
Or they want something which is at our other warehouses but they want it now!! Ofcourse they'd have to wait for the company truck to deliver some of the goods which takes time somthing they cant understand, everyday there was always somwthing

I was actually in recently and I heard a sales guy say that the apple mac laptops are better than PC versions because they dont have "those ugly big vents on the side as the insides are dust sealed". Funniest thing ive heard in quite some time and I think the guy looked over when I was chuckling. |

Re: Where in the world?
Regarding the mouse range, I'm pretty used to getting a low range on Microsoft products (though battery life is good). Even at a 1-2 foot distance (which is normal for my setups at home and work), having no cord is much better than having one.

Re: Where in the world?
when it comes to the fight between wireless and wired..... nothing beats wired...
period.. in terms of reliability, and longevity. The "no Strings attached" of wireless is all nice and dandy.. but the other pros of wired can go out the window quite easily.

Re: Where in the world?
mmm I agree with you Judas, not completely however. I think Bluetooth is a stunning interface and I never notice the same slight 'lags' as with standardised wireless.

Re: Where in the world?
no doubt bluetooth is better..
it's as close to a wired connection as one can get with wireless.... but i've still seen some issues with them simply due to a house's design, other devices or what have you.

in my line of work we call it blueteefa.

Re: Where in the world?
Several homes around here have lathe and plaster walls filled to every inch with nails.
Lead based painted covered over with more lead based paint and then covered again with other paints. Massive unshielded electrical wireing throughout these homes. Where one of my bluetooth devices will work even up to 50feet, i can't go on the other side of these walls without it dropping out or getting a bad signal. Hell powerful wireless routers won't even manage it quite often. It's not always a common thing, but it does and has happened where a wired connection just makes some people a little less stressed out. Granted it's very freeing when a wireless setup works with little to no issues.

Re: Where in the world?
My mom used to say the exact same thing. I even saw a documentary about it and how Sony stereo's are meant to only last 5 to 8 years. Same with Cd-Rom drives when they came out which I heard that they only have a limited amount of drive accesses.

well first up, funny Z
![]() (though the price of the replacement isn't..) and Judas, I live in a house chock full of lathe and plaster, and 3 foot thick granite walls throughout to boot, and I have no problems with bluetooth whatsoever. over all 3 floors. maybe you had dodgy test product..

Re: Where in the world?
don't know.
I grew up and continue to still be around a house that uses asbestos shingles and sideing and i've no tumors or health issues. There is a good number of situations that could cause major interferrance both either eletronically, building, eviromentally that could produce the issues.... either way... some places just don't like wireless..

I sort of got the gist of it from my father, who is familiar with RF issues and problems with waveguides and transmitters, and asked me specific questions about the range in mhz or perhaps ghz that these devices operate in. A little over my head at first but he had to draw it on a napkin for me to get it. This I understand perfectly now, that wireless and bluetooth devices can suffer problems with signal degradation but the solution is very simple. I am just Joe Public, so if you know something more about what can kill or degrade bluetooth please share it, I am curious to know. I could google this, but I want to read the expert advice of a person in the industry.

Re: Where in the world?
i don't know the specific details on how or why.... i've read into it.. but actually narrowing down the cause at least for me in some of these places is definitely something i don't know how to properly do without disabling or remove a number of things.
For example.. i know that the Security camera's that are wireless can be instantly INSTANTLY JAMMED by using a Xbox360 PSU without actually physically connecting the xbox to it.. just plug the PSU in and bam... you've wiped out a number of wireless security camera's in the vacinity. Interest enough i've measure it up to the maximum range these camera's have which is about 100 feet..... What wireless standard are these camera's using... a specific 802 i'm sure... i'd have to go find it.... but it's bizare that it doesn't seem to affect wireless router... Blue-tooth is a wireless signal.... different no doubt.. but still wireless... who knows what combination of things are causing havoc.. perhaps in this case, the wireless security camera's are causing it greif. Process of elimination is required, something in which i just wasn't bothered with at the time as the security system or other household items in the area are somewhat necessary. I've seen Electric motors in fridges/deep freezes or so on that emit interferance. Shit even the regulators on some appliances "leak". There are countless sources of interferrance that could be causeing it. Another example is we had a Airation fan that had apparently a bad bush in the electic motor running off it's own 200 amp breaker box, nearly 500 feet away, and the house was running off it's own seperate line to it's own 100amp breaker box in the opposite direction of the main power lines. Many of our electrical devices were affected by static/or highly disrupted. Something so far away and so seperated from the power systems still managed to feed back through it all and cause these issues.

Re: Where in the world?
My father gave me some really good info on RF problems and issues even when you have multiple devices that are running say between 2.4 ghz or even 5 ghz. I understand that channels need to be associated with multiple devices and there are actually more than one type of Bluetooth too. RF energy powerful enough to transmit in bursts say from military or satellite or microwave devices, towers can adverseky affect BT performance as well as wireless but I had to read a bit because communication technology is so complex now. I read where Motorola and other companies actually performed survey's to determine the impact on their scramblers and radios for ambulance radios, etc.
My fatherr filled me in on what I didnt know about military applications of RF energy besides just communication. In terms of structures, besides the obvious materials or shapes that reflect RF and can degrade BT or plain wireless performance, what within a structure can cause the most trouble. that is worthing know I think. I will have to noodle that.

Re: Where in the world?
indeed money talks.. but unfortunately it's gotten to the point where money doesn't in most consumer things as they are ripping people off at both ends of the spectrum and you can't trust anything the outside of a box says..... false advertising complaints are starting to get thrown out unless they are blatently lieing.
