Boysenberry syrup

I am sure most of you guys have lived somewhere and loved something locally and then moved and you cant get it again. When I lived in California i used to get pancakes and put boysenberry syrup all over them. Maybe just as well I can't get it anymore or I would be a fat bastard.

In Ireland however you cant really get it (well ive never seen it anywhere).

Boysenberry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bizarre conversation I know, but what about you guys, anything you miss from a place you used to live?

Re: Boysenberry syrup

the first time I had that was in a little deli/cafe just outside frisco and the young girl handling the order recommended I gave it a shot, I almost didn't as maple syrup is hard to beat.

This topped it for me, still have some fond memories of eating it !

Re: Boysenberry syrup

possibly an odd one, but I used to live on Lewis, and there was a butcher there who made black pudding the like of which you'll never taste anywhere in the world.
I couldn't eat any other black pudding for years after i left the place, and any time i knew anyone going there for any reason i made them bring me a full, suggestive length of the stuff back with them
butchers on mainland scotland just don't make great pudding

I miss picking wild Huckleberries and Blackberries, digging clams, gathering mussels and walking the shoreline, beachcombing, when I lived in Nova Scotia.

lol I think its probably an acquired taste in many ways.
i mind years ago watching a tv show where celebrated chef Nick Nairn was on one of the islands being shown how to make black pudding the proper, traditional way, and half way through he had to run outside to throw up
oh how we laughed..

Well, everytime I go outside Holland I miss the Dutch mayonaise. There's that French mayonaise, but it's with too much mustard so it doesn't tastes quite well. Ketchup is fine though and French Fries are available all over the world, but not the fine mayonaise like here

I love real Gyros, made in Iraklion Crete with real native Tziki sauce.
The closest equivalent is maybe by a Persian Couple that own a small cafe not from my parents. They also use real olives from Greece and local drinks, etc.

The taste :P Can't really explain. You should come over here then

We also know the 'kroket' and the 'frikandel' here. Some sort of meat (like a hamburger), prepared in grease like fries. Some varitation and not all those hamburgers like in the US (been there, done that)

Uhu, Gyros is really tastefull. Kebab is also nice. With garlic or whiskey sauce, which isn't that bad at all.

Re: Boysenberry syrup

I didnt make quite as big of a move as you did Zardon, I can still get the syrup here, but I moved from Southern California to Seattle. I have been here for 3 years and still cannot find good authentic Mexican up here. It might not sound so bad but if you know then you know.

Also there was this stall at the university i used to attend that sold sweet noodles and pork, ive never been able to get that heavenly flavor from any Chinese resturant anywhere else,

You know that lame crap that movies say "sprinkled with a bit of love," yeah pretty much I guess that was their secret ingredient (I hope)
