whats your plans for christmas?
Curious what you guys are planning for your christmas?
I intend to have a few nice meals, maybe a good bottle of red wine and chill out for a few days. Anyone got anything radical planned? I know my friend tends to go to exotic places at Christmas to get away from it all. |

Re: whats your plans for christmas?
Nothing, pretty much the same thing as you Z. Have a nice Christmas dinner with family friends, pressies, listen to some Christmas music. I rarely buy myself any presents but always receive presents (and give some away) from family and friends.

Have some sweets, perhaps a nice dinner, I don't expect anything else if even that.

Re: whats your plans for christmas?
I am looking forward to christmas. I get to go back down to Cali and catch some sun, hang out with friends and family and just chill for a week or so. Wearing shorts and flip flops on christmas is the only way to go.

Thank you. Situation is beyond fucked up here. The family, or families, on both sides is beyond crazy (and not in the good way). I won't go into details since it wouldn't be appropriate. I used to have a dream of moving to the USA, that ruined now everything is kinda shit really (thankfully there are still games). But yeah, nvm. There are some very good greek sweets for this period, called melomakarona and they taste fantastic. I wasn't able to have them lately (or 12 years lol) due to me spending most of my time out of Greece, but this year I am going to buy a kilo of them and go nuts lol.

Re: whats your plans for christmas?
A few days at my mom's place on the lake. Probably chop down a tree in the woods with my son and see if he gets the whole decorating a tree thing yet (he's 19 months old), drink some port, eat some food & be with my family, then do some travling on Christmas day to be with the in-laws, finally chill for the weekend and then go back to work on my 38th birthdy.

Re: whats your plans for christmas?
I'll probably have dinner with Dad and one of my sisters..... he'll order restaurant food the day before and we re-heat.
Other than that I'll just be home with my dogs/cats/birds........ They usually get treats.

Re: whats your plans for christmas?
As long as you don't dream of getting a nap while you are getting laid, you will be fine.

Re: whats your plans for christmas?
This is our son's first Christmas so it's sure to be fun even if he won't have any idea about what is going on other than there are more shiny things than before. It works for me too but then again I'm a bit simple at times.
Christmas Eve we will visit with my grand mother and the crazy clan including my Dad. Last Christmas we were showing ultrasound pictures so it will be great to actually have him with us this year although I am sure he will freak out amongst the loud, drunken family members. Christmas morning will be spent at our place and once our son is up from his first nap we will pack up shop and head to the in-laws. I have a hunch they went overboard. Boxing Day we will have my mother, sister and brother in-law over to our place. The following day the tree will be down and things will be back to normal. We setup early and we tear down early. It used to stem from the fact that we enjoyed our Christmas cheer pretty freely before we became parents and didn't want to deal with tearing down after a rough night. |

Re: whats your plans for christmas?
Here is some random piece of information for you.
In Greece we don't give gifts for Christmas, but for new years day. The reason being (my guess) that because the name for Santa Claus in Greece is Saint Bill (don't laugh), and his nameday as a saint, is the first of January and what he did (he was very rich and gave all his money to the poor and to create schools and churches etc), we give gifts then. Slowly over the last couple of decades this changes and more and more people either give gifts during Christmas or both days.

Re: whats your plans for christmas?
I just found out an old drinking buddie lives under a railroad trestle near the center of town and he goes to the shelter for food once in awhile. I would like to find him help him out. We were brothers in beer for many years and I feel like I owe him something at least, as a human being, but a shooting star that blazed so bright in his youth and then fell into alcoholic despair. I had heard he died years ago, but I saw a police report and found his bearded and haggard face on the arrest report. It would do my heart good to let him know that he still has one friend left in the world, and buy him a meal or a nice warm coat. I know I cant stop him from drinking or using drugs, but I can treat him like a human being, at least this Christmas.
We are all fortunate in many ways, and I counted my blessings and found my own self a bit wanting. For old friends forgotten, lost or gone, I will raise a glass in tribute to the good times, good women and good music long ago. You never forget your first love, your best friend or anyone you called a brother once. For all the lost brothers and sisters and parents this year, I hope we remember them all in spirit.
