I honestly think, with the cast and the plot its a winner, but I hope it isnt cliche and will entertain. I might very well buy the series when it is pressed. I bought the entire season one and two of Rome and I wasnt disappointed.

I've seen the first two episodes of Spartacus and I was quite impressed. It really is the love child of 300, HBO's Rome, and Gladiator. There's equal parts over the top violence (even more blood and severed body parts than 300!) cursing (a word that rhymes with runt is said more times than I can count) and sex which leaves just a little bit of room for back story on the Roman politics and society. It's likely not going to be as good as either of the three influences which spawned it but I look forward to the rest of Spartacus. If you are a fan of 300 you are absolutely going to love this show.

What about the Spartacus film by Kubrick? If anything is the father to the television series, surely it has to be the film with the same name.

So what do you guys think of Spartacus 5 episodes into it? I've pretty much given up on the series even remotely resembling Kubricks movie (I couldn't buy this guy leading an army anyway) and the amount of tits, gore and gayness is topped with each episode. That said, the action is fantastic and the CGI blood isn't annoying as I thought it would be (it is tv after all). I wonder if too many people will be turned off by the extreme violence and cursing for it to get renewed. The network it airs on sounds like something for women and there's no way chicks could sit through this show no matter how many times they see a penis

I havent seen any of the series, I refuse to pay the extraordinary price for crappy cable here in town so unless its on the free channels I wont get it, but I DONT MISS AMERICAN TELEVISION...
I thought BBC1 or BBC2 were bad, but I have found nothing but absolute rubbish on American Tele...

The season finale aired this weekend and the show has come a long way. While it still has as much gore, cursing and nudity as ever the acting and character depth sold it for me. I was a huge fan of Rome but I would say that the acting in Spartacus is about equal to Rome and that HBO show had lots of well seasoned actors to its credit whereas Spartacus is all newcomers save for a couple.

I would say this is a must see season on DVD or Blu-ray (preferably Blu-ray it looks great in 720p, will look awesome in 1080p).

Rome was mostly about portraying historical events through the eyes of two soldiers whereas Spartacus appears to be more of a gritty "this is how it probably happened" retelling of the character. Rome got cancelled after 2 seasons so hopefully Spartacus isn't like Rome and goes on for longer than that!

Sad to say that Andy died yesterday I'm in shock. Never seen someone in their prime brought down so fast. He was just beginning a promising acting career too it's terrible. RIP
