Britain is colder than Canada...

Quote:
The big chill looked set to continue as 4in of snow fell across parts of Britain and temperatures looked set to plunge again.

Heavy snow fell across Wales, the Midlands and South Yorkshire, with more expected to hit South Wales and the Midlands tomorrow.

Britain is on course for its coldest February in 30 years, and overnight temperatures were expected to plunge to as low as - 15c (5f) in the Scottish Highlands - colder than parts of Canada.
I bloody knew it.
nipped next door a wee while ago, paused at the front door for 10secs with my hand resting on the handle, and it started to bloody stick!

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

yeah, but the thing is, in Scotland we're used to a near tropical climate for 11 1/2 months of the year, so we're completely thrown by all this sudden cold

15°C? That's cold! I prefer it around 10 degrees warmer and in the summer it's not too bad if it goes a little further up so the water in the lake gets nice and cozy like that in a bath tub.

you guys kill me, we get snow, snow , wind and snow. sunny snow and wet snow, and occasionally dry blowing snow...
but hey, we are in Colorado.
I think you have to freeze your nipples once in awhile to appreciate the cold.

Re: Britain is colder than Canada...

What's goin on?

Snow was becoming so rare in England that it was all but a distant memory. Every now and then an inch or two would settle but be gone by the next day.

Then last February 2009 we got heavy snow that was on the ground for 6 days! Phew - won't see that again in a hurry I thought. Then December 2009 snow on the ground for weeks n weeks. Then again in January. I wakes up yesterday to find Snow again - WTF.

Britain is colder than Canada...-wtf.jpg

I'm sick of the weather presenters saying "It's gonna be colder than average for this time of year", they've been saying that for the last 3 months. Enough now, let's have some warmth

lol that keyboard sweater is awesome.
Yeah its pretty warm here where I am (right now its only -1, pretty warm for a typical day this time of the year usually), but there are places like Saskatchewan in the middle of the country where water freezes the moment you throw it in the air and drops frozen. lol.

Here's a video from youtube: YouTube - From Boiling to Frozen

Then last February 2009 we got heavy snow that was on the ground for 6 days! Phew - won't see that again in a hurry I thought. Then December 2009 snow on the ground for weeks n weeks. Then again in January. I wakes up yesterday to find Snow again - WTF.

I'm sick of the weather presenters saying "It's gonna be colder than average for this time of year", they've been saying that for the last 3 months. Enough now, let's have some warmth
That's how things work, all those average figures are exactly that, an average of many decades. But those same past decades comprised of many years that were bellow the average and those that were above. You've had a few years that had less snow than average and now this one is going to even it all out. Unless we suddenly switched from global warming to global freezing.

I don't even cover my ears and forehead until at least -20C.
I can roll around without a toque or neck warmer as well above -20 c you get used to it, but living in Saskatchewan I can't wait for this winter to let up and the spring time to come and then the summer, funny that we can get some pretty high temperatures here in Saskatoon too.

Re: Britain is colder than Canada...

All this talk of a cold winter (and it's the coldest winter i can recall) reminds me of a clasic only fools & horses moment..

i lived on Lewis for a few years, so i've experienced worse winters, but its easily the most consistently cold and horrible winter since i moved over to the east coast.
hell, its practically march already, and we still got schools closed up here
its just not right.
