Woman neglects kids, kills animals over Facebook game

A woman in the UK, who has not been identified, has been charged and jailed for child cruelty and animal neglect after she apparently became hooked on a Facebook game. The woman had been neglecting her children and pets for a considerable time in favour of the Facebook title. By the time police were notified and arrived at her home her dogs had already been decomposing in her living room for two months.

The conditions were discovered when a neighbour looked through the letter slot and saw the state of the woman’s home. She had spent several months only feeding her children meals that did not require cooking, neglecting the animals at her home entirely. She was playing the Facebook title, identified as the Small Worlds MMO, to the exclusion of all else, getting roughly two hours of sleep a night before her situation was discovered.

I think I've played StarCraft II for like, 6 hours once, but that's StarCraft II. It's super rad. How the hell do you get addicted to a game like Small Worlds, FarmVille or any game like that?

Someone I know phoned me the other day and asked me if he could come over to play farmville on facebook because his internet connection was down and he did not want to lose his crop.

A friend talked me into installing FarmVille some ten days ago (there are many things that require having x neighbours to unlock so she just needed me to install it to become her neighbour) and I did get hooked on it for a few days.

At first I had no intention of playing at all, but once I installed it I though "Well, let's see what this is about, a few clicks won't hurt." and soon it was "Ooh, I just need a couple of more action points to finish this mission, I'll leave it on and do something else while they regenerate." I didn't get obsessed like that woman (I ate and slept normally and was actually quite productive over the past week, I did a good deal of studying and had driving lessons every day), but I wasted way more time on FarmVille than that thing deserved before I definitely got bored with it, so yeah, the piece of c*ap is addictive.
