What started the zombies?
Zombies as we know it are the "undead". Half alive, half not so alive - typically brought back from the dead somehow.
With this as the known, I've been pondering for the last few days; what started all of the zombies? I'm thinking the original Frankenstein is the original zombie. He fits the criteria of being an "undead". After all, he was dead, mixed with a bunch of other human body parts and then brought to life. How much more zombie can you get than that?! Anyways, the reason why I say Frankenstein was the first zombie is because the original Frankenstein books first came out way back when in the late 1800's with a first Frankenstein movie in the early 1900's. Does anybody concur with this or is there something else from even earlier that started the zombies? |

Re: What started the zombies?
I think some early saga's will tell a tale of a god awakening the dead.. but that is just a presumption..

But, the evolution of what has become the zombie of today is the result of several movies as well as literature. Probably among them, and one of the most commonly known ones, is, "Night of the Living Dead." |

Re: What started the zombies?
Al-Azhar University in Cairo, founded AD 969 was the starting point, but the first zombie didn't make an appearance until 975AD, when the first lecture took place, and therefore the first student had to drag himself out of bed 4 hours earlier than he would have liked

Re: What started the zombies?
In terms of movies, IIRC, the first proper film with zombies was made right after or before the WWII.
The modern day zombies first appeared in that 70's film mentioned. As for the latest batch of zombies in films where the zombies run, jump and act like monkeys, I am not sure when that started but I don't like it. Although in real life, richy is probably right at least in spirit, it was some student.

ney...... he wasn't necessarily... he's/she/it... whatever was the one that seems to have been told around the world... and the story survives as long as countless other myths/legends/and such which have close if not identical stories.

Re: What started the zombies?
Zombies first came around when people who think they are generally good people are overwhelmed with an urge to dispatch someone in unthinkable ways.
Thus the brain's reaction to this urge gave us Zombies. A way to kill things and not feel bad. Also this was how violent video games were born. |
