Lucas is part of the group that has brought 3d to the big screens...

i'm sure with his wealth of abilities.. considering what he did with digitally remastering and doing more work on the orginal 3... he'll be able to do some damn good 3D..

3D is so boring. It's a gimmick with the sole purpose of driving sales of 3D tvs, 3D blurays and 3D glasses. Plus I expect the media companies reckon 3D will be harder to distribute over torrent networks but I doubt it will make any difference.

Yeah, 3D can be entertaining in a cinema, with polarized glasses on a massive IMAX screen and if it's real 3D like Avatar etc.

I expect this Star Wars post-process 3D will be like the segments in Superman Returns where different elements of the image are cut out and then composited in 3D. It looks weird, like bits of the image have been cut out of the screen and moved forward - looks shit basically.

I've got a 3D TV and love Star Wars but I've got absolutely no interest in this crap. I want Star Wars on Blu-ray and that's it. 3D is for movies shot that way and they are awesome to watch but for 30 year old stuff it's a pointless cash grab by George Lucas.

What I find incredible is that after tinkering around with the movies for near 30 years he couldn't get them right but 1 guy with a home PC got as near as anyone is likely to. What Adywan did was near perfect - of course there were serious limitations on what he could do.

As a basic example, on the Falcon, Luke's lightsabre is plainly the wrong colour. The special editions didn't fix it. The 2004 DVD didn't fix it. Adywan working at home fixed it with a home PC.

For Bluray I would love to see the OT fully updated with new effects to bring them in line with the PT. With the option of branching content to the original theatrical release. If done properly this could be a must have for a Star Wars fan, it could also be a pretty lacklustre cash-in.

It was officially announced that the Star Wars Special Editions come out next year on Blu-ray. All 6 movies. Once this is done then Adywan can fix it so we'll have definitive HD transfers

I did a Trek marathon of the BD's it was a blast since I'd only seen them in blurry VHS copies even the oldest ones looked stellar. Star Wars should be even better since they've already been updated in '97.

I agree. The Dark Knight in IMAX 3D was sick, and with such a great sound setup as well as watching it with such a large group of people, it was legitimate fun. But, I found the home experience with 3D to be lackluster and way too expensive. I don't own a 3D TV myself, but I have watched a few Blu-Rays and played a few games on one, and I wasn't impressed. Apparently, my friend paid $3300 for his 42" 3D TV alone, not including the Blu-Ray Player, not including the 3D kit. That seems pretty fucking ridiculous in comparison to a ten dollar movie ticket, with comfortable seating and free glasses.

Anyways, we watched Pixar's UP in 3D on his TV, which looked awesome. But watching Spider-Man 3 on the same TV was like reading a pop-up book; the second fight scene with Sandman was totally cool-looking before I saw the 3D version, which looks like a Thomas Hayden-Church 2D model fighting a paper Spider-Man with Eric from That 70's Show looming like a Venom "marionette". The 3D production looked really cheap and not very well done.

I understand that some movies are being made strictly in 3D now, so maybe those will look fine, but I doubt their conversion back to the standard format will look normal. Unless you have a boner for seeing the meatballs in Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs pop out at you like old-school Mode 7 scaling, avoid it at all costs.

Hologram/Laser Projection TV is what I'm waiting for, or a Holodeck from Star Trek. How sweet would it be to meet Albert Einstein, have a boxing match with Mohammed Ali, or have XXX-rated holo-programs (complete with adjustable hair styles, nail color, height and weight adjustment, "Star" selections, bra-size manipulator...)?

Ep 1 was bad, but 3 made up for it. Of course it would have been better if it was 18 rated.

Then of course there is the excellent chemistry between couple, the fuuunnyyyyy Jar Jar B, and the usual traitor against the Jedi and the republic, Yoda. (only one is true)

Personally, I feel Star Wars was slightly "shat upon" with the digital remasters of the original trilogy, because the charm of the original SFX was lost. Rather, they gave way to "Death-Star Ring Explosion" and "cheesy-looking Tattooine speeder scene", as well as "incorrectly colored light-saber fest" and "not-improved facial effects for Emperor Palpatine". I feel it managed to make the effects look WORSE than they did before, digital zoom and all. All I could think was, "Oh man, that shitty-looking Jabba the Hut render meets up with Han Solo to discuss stuff that has no effect on the plot?" "AWESOME!".

But I am a cynical guy.

The additions should have been just FX upgrades but what we got too often distracted from what the characters or the scenery. I wonder if maybe the Blu-rays were delayed so outdated CGI like Jabba could be redone to today standards. Knowing Lucas that will come with a "Redone" Special Edition a few years from now to make his zombies spend even more.

One of the worst scenes is in Return of the Jedi, during the last fight scene at the Death Star. The digital zoom is atrocious during the fight and all the CGI lasers flying around looks like a Christmas light show being directed by a retarded mudskipper. Go back and watch it, it seems like a lot of the fight was unnecessarily supplemented to make it seem "more intense", but I always thought it was cool, even before the "intensity" was added. Then, a second "Death Star Ring-Explosion" and the CHEESY addition of Hayden Christensen at the end with Obi Wan and Yoda's ghosts. That got to me the most. The '97 edition - original actor who played Anakin. The 2002 remaster? HAYDEN F*CKING CHRISTENSEN! Really? Even the overlay for his ghost looks STUPID.

What the hell was George Lucas thinking? "He made a great Anakin, regardless of the plot holes I wrote myself into and the terrible acting between him and Natalie Portman. Alright, put him in."

I will not buy the Blu-Ray editions, and I will not buy the remasters of the new trilogy when they inevitably re-released with "improved features", like "George Lucas shaves his butthole in 3-D" or "We should have made a Dash Rendar movie by now" easter eggs, or "interactive menu with Boba Fett's head as the selection tool". Uh-huh.
