Cell phone time traveler from 1928?

Is a woman in a 1928 film who appears to have a cell phone glued to her ear in fact a time traveler? That's what some conspiracy theorists think this eerie scene (video below) from Charlie Chaplin's 1928 film, "The Circus" is telegraphing, or rather phoning, and that the woman -- who looks about as time-traveler-ish as Martha Stewart, is indeed a voyager from the vortex of time and space.
Belfast filmmaker George Clarke, a Chaplin fan, says he was watching the "behind the scenes of 'The Circus' " and was "stumped" at what he saw.

was watching this recently and showed to my grandparents and a few older people running in their late 80's early 90's...

At first they thought it was a hearing aid... but after closer inspection.. one of the women said it's quite bizarre.. the clothing and the situation isn't quite correct and one of them states that while being a chaplin fan, and had seen the orginals.. remembers seeing "woman"....

Theres alot of interesting points of view about this....

I'd be more worried about the guy just ahead of her looking like Boris Karloff as "the Mummy"....... but that's just me.

she/he's talking..

there is a shadow cast from the edges of the device in more detailed fine tuned video analyse...

the fingers are clearly arched in a way that perfectly mimics holding a device as there appears to be preasure in the correct places...

alot of interesting stuff

I'm with MIG on this one, I see no cell phone. The way her fingers are curled, it would have to be a really bulky one, nothing like today's candy-bars.

She is talking. Maybe she's nagging about something to the guy walking in front of her. As for the hand, she could be pressing a handkerchief to her cheek if she had tooth-ache or something like that. I'd say that it's definitely more likely than a cell phone (even if you believe in time travel, the woman would have had to bring her own cell tower in order to use it

).

I can't think of a reason, even if she is talking to the man infront of her, why she would keep her hand like that and almost look like she is talking to a cell phone and make a small turn near the end of the shot.

I haven't seen the movie and if she is not part of the cast and it is a random shot, then I guess, anything is possible. But let's not be silly. Time travel lol. She is clearly an alien talking to her crew.

A time traveler? You guys kidding? As a person close to video production I must say this may be just an easter-egg, cuz the video editor must have seen it for sure during edit. The question is why he/she left it present on the video. What if that woman just had problem with mental health and was talking by eg a piece of wood or just by hand or by.. anything. And the video editor might have left her... well just for lulz?

Video editing in 1928? Huh ... back in those days the film was hand cut and edited manually ... no fancy cgi or other computer stuff... but as I said in my earlier post the postion of the hand indicates that she might be covering her face so that the camera would not see it. But she failed when she turned to talk to the cameraman ..

I don't buy it. There was no reason to hold a hearing aid and talk while walking alone on the street. And when she noticed she was being filmed... This wasn't a hearing aid. This was a wireless communication device.

How did you know that she didn't see the camera before she entered the sights of the camera. Do remember that the clip is from 1928 the cameras back then were bigger than they are today..

Yeah, temeteus82, I clearly realize what was editing like in 1928. But still it was. Btw my idea came to me cuz right after the woman there's a fade to another video part. So, the woman could be cut, but she wasnt. I think intentionally.

She was holding a tin can but due to the limitations of the camera film in those days the string is not recorded on the print.

Do I need to explain how human vision works when one is moving forward at low speed... btw. when moving fast there is the thing called tunnel vision when brains skip certain areas of the vision and focus on the direction of sight...

as i stated... after actually seeing the above mentioned hear aid... exact one.. as one of these old guys actually showed me a broken one (didn't work.. and was very badly handled.. but still something to know what it looked like and size) he clearly stated that when it was used.... you would NOT be using it quite like that, specially when talking.

you can clearly see this woman/man walk in... talking.. not mumbling. .there is no indication at all that she/he was talking to anyone or even to the man that was ahead of her/him.

If it was today, you would have thought cell phone, you would have thought possibly an arguement or deep discussion on the device and not being at all aware of your surroundings, and then it's like she/he notices the camera and turns for no apparent reason other then to look at it.. but then it fades to the next video.

What i find extremely funny is that some people that will emediately ATTEMPT to debunk this using "logic" which in turns doesn't sound logical at all is stating "there are no cell towers or service back then... DEBUNKED" when in fact that sounds utterly retarded to even mention if someone had the technology to go back, why in the hell would they take a device that didn't work across time to communicate. I'm sure if someone went back in time they would have covered all the basics for what they would require to use what they wanted...

if anyone emediately concludes time traveling as an impossibility... you can't... that's a fact.....
