I've been trying to recruit some of my old friends from Yahoo! chat and the old-school DBZStar forums to come over here to share their awesomeness, but they seem reluctant. One of my friends is an "oldfag" from 4chan, and he has sworn never to return to the internets again after his departure. What happened to the good old days of trolling for fun? Since when did trolling become a hivemind agenda for pseudo-vigilantism?

It is truly a sad state of affairs here in teh interwebs...

i guess perhaps because the

"been there.. done that" has taken hold

top it off with the massive swinging of fads and other social systems that have made message boards almost a thing of the past beyond simply asking and receiving questions.... instead of conversing with long discussions or short with people around the world.. i've recently found many people to be fitting in tight with their clicks even while on the internet..

It's both a pro and a con.... it's being abused in the wrong ways i'd say..

The whole advantage of having the internet was to be able to talk to anyone from around the world....

but instead we have families using messenger and facebook and twitter to talk to the family member or friend beside them.

Instead of the masses getting that much smarter due to having this technology at their fingertips.. almost seems their getting dumber and even further closed off then before..

Frankly some of it doesn't make sense.. and when bring this up to a few people that are doing what i stated above... most of them get overly defencive about it and some rather quite angry... however there is one or 2 that after making that statement... you can almost watch their eyes glaze over in realization.

People are still going "Out" but not like the used to... once again cliques and crap... People are less social in social enviroments then ever....

I kind of agree with what Judas has said. I know for myself it's very hard to hold down a full-time job, keep up with my family -- both personally and on Facebook -- and get around to all the forums I like to frequent.

And then there are the video games!!!

Seems like the good ol' days had more hours in them.

Well said Judas. It's not absolute truth, but truth nonetheless. I feel extremely alienated IRL sometimes because of my opinions and/or standpoints, much less online; now it has started to bleed through to the net. People on fakebook ask me stuff like "Are you serious" or "Really" when I post something that's obviously trollish or outlandish on my wall. I think this may be because at least 92% of people on fakebook know nothing else of the internet other than fakebook, or have absolutely no sense of humor. Seriously.

I lost a friend I've had for about eight years recently because I posted something cheeky on her wall. Something along the lines of "send me a message or I will summon a horde of locusts to eat your children's flesh"; simply because I wanted to know how she was doing.

She knows my sense of humor and demeanor IRL, but she BLOCKED me from her fakebook because "I shouldn't have ever said anything like that. My family reads this". I then proceeded to tell her she never really knew me, obviously, and that she should go f*ck herself to the latest Ke$ha record.

This is INFURIATING! How did the context of us knowing each other, making out once, partying together and sharing great memories IRL change on fakebook?

Oh yeah, because fakebook is everyone's favorite combo of "Pseudo-mormon-do-gooder with a side of two-facery" and a "F*cktard Milkshake" to wash it all down with.

I'm done choking on it.

That's exactly the same what I see in my country. Though we in Russia have not fakebook, but its clone, most of the people I know think it is internet. Well, two more sites probably, our local email portal and a search site. But that's enough! lol

If it's interesting, those are vkontakte.ru, mail.ru and ya.ru. Everything is pretty much the same.

Oh, I wasn't venting about you man. You've always been pretty chill. I didn't literally tell her to eff off...more so acted dismissively and felt alienated.
