Dang, ya just gotta love a "Tech Savvy" wife. She knows that I've been running this system for a few years now (bought the original MB, etc in 2007), and that I've upgraded it as far as I can. So when I mentioned that I'd like to get a new MB, CPU and RAM, she suggested that I just build an entirely new system

Contrary to what I posted in the "What do you want for Christmas" thread, I'll be getting (actually most of it is arriving MONDAY) :

Cooler Master CM690 II Advanced
Corsair AX 750 PSU
ASRock 890FX Deluxe4 MB
Phenom II X6 1090T **
2x CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB)**
Asus DVD Burner
AFT Card reader

I'll be using my current Seagate 1TB drives (2) since they are only a couple of months old.

Also not upgrading from the 2X 4870s in Xfire. Gonna wait for the 69xx cards to stabilize.

And, I have a NIB Creative X-Fi Titanium that I haven't been able to use since it won't fit on my current MB.

** I'll be getting these next month (Fixed income and all that ya know).

2x4870 will do fine for a good while longer, and the CPU prices could always drop a bit more in the new year.

Dunno if I'll do that, but I will at least post a pic or two of the completed build. That won't be until some time NEXT month as I won't be buying the CPU and RAM until then.

I did unbox everything, and DANG is that PSU heavy! I thought my HX620 was heavy, but it's just a 'Middle Weight' compared to to the AX750.

The MB is just downright beautiful. I've read a number of reviews on it, and pics just don't do it justice. It's almost a shame to hide it inside a case

Something I noticed, that none of the reviewers mentioned, is that it comes with 4 SATA cables, 2 of which are 90* ----> straight. Sure wish I would have known that as I bought some 90* ----> straight cables to make sure I had clearance at the HDDs.

I just finished building a system for #2 son a few weeks ago, using the Advanced II standard case and I was MIGHTILY impressed. My original CM690 saw it and shuddered.

It too had a 'feature' that I haven't seen any reviewer mention. It had a little Phillips driven socket for installing the standoffs for the MB. Now that isn't really a big thing, but it sure does make getting the standoffs installed and tightened a piece of cake.
