Tron Legacy
So i watched this last sunday.... went in the late afternoon to avoid all the crap chairs and generally terrible annoying teenagers or general population..
The last time i went to a theater for a fresh released movie was avatar... and before that......... well it only happens once a year average.. Anywho, 3D glasses unwrapped and put on. Personally, having been very pleased and enjoyed the first movie way way back 28 years ago (mind you i wasn't born yet so i didn't watch it until i was maybe 4 or 5 years old and "actually" watched it...).... while by todays standards isn't all that great at all but for it's time pretty damn cool i thought.. This new movie started off..... great..... got better...... and when it really kicks off and seriously takes off i would say. It's slow to start understandably, not to slow though.... The tron universe is pixel perfect, amazing, the action is fantastic, the 3D effects are i would say on par with avatar, and the entire movie right to the end is truly an epic. I went onto metacritic and rotten tomatoes and i like to read some of the most terrible rated reviews just to see what they say, then go watch the movie. Then after watching refer to those same reviews again and point at laugh at the utterly rediculiousness of some of what they say. Some of the critics utterly HATE this movie for no clear good reason other then point blank opinion. They hated it before they went to it, why in the hell do these people insist on reviewing a movie they clearly hate. I would say tron lived up to it's expectations. When it ended, i wanted more... And when it ended, it wasn't a fairy tale happily ever after either really. It also left some additional questions and what ifs at the end too while answering the main plot of the movie. another 28 years and get a 3rd installment? Well we'll see i guess... But i thoroughly enjoyed it... probably one of the best movies out there i think. Actually it's a movie i'm willing to go see again and pay the near 15 bucks.... it's worth it. I hope to hell that people go and watch it and enjoy it... and that it doubles at the very least what it spent on it's budget... guess we'll see with the christmas time... To bad this movie should have been launched in the summer as a summer blockbuster.

Re: Tron Legacy
Hmm I've been tossing up about seeing this one. A few of my friends have and they said the Daft Punk soundtrack really made it...
and me not being too keen on Daft Punk's stuff makes me a little weary as well as the fact I haven't seen the first one so I have no idea about any of it whatsoever. not even the trailer reveals much to me

Re: Tron Legacy
It was a cool experience altogether, but CGI Jeff Bridges was kinda gay...

Re: Tron Legacy
Just saw it and wasn't that impressed. The original introduced a new world, which was exciting because it was new and imaginative. This one to me suffers from extreme sequelitis, the inability to come up with anything new. It took the old look, updated it with modern graphics (which I didn't find too impressive, but then, Avatar just set the bar very high), and threw in a forgettable plot with lackluster characters. It didn't even manage to redeem itself with good action sequences. The original movie had Flynn discover his powers as a user, and here Sam Flynn is just a basic (and not very good) action hero. In short, just an uninspired movie. I did manage to play on nostalgia once or twice, but that wasn't enough.

Re: Tron Legacy
watched it 2 times pretty amazing, better than the first IMO. the jump in technology we've had is crazy from 1982, and the soundtrack is absolutely insane

Re: Tron Legacy
Cow - the first film is called Tron and the second film is called Tron Legacy (aka: Tron 2), which takes place 20 years after the first film, continuing the story.
Overall, the film was really enjoyable. I hated the idea that the bikes no longer plow along at high-speeds, making 90 degree turns that only a person with ace reflexes could avoid slamming into. The new prospect, however, was quite funky; being able to go below ground, bottleneck an opponent... yeah, it worked. Amusingly, the iPhone game took the original idea (though it would kinda have to). There were a couple of things niggling at me at the end of the film. Without spoiling the film - what exactly happened to Tron and what the hell was wrong with the electric company? The phone company disconnected the phone in the same year that the guy disappeared. The power? "Nah, let's just turn off the fuse box. Nobody will ever use this place again". Like I said, good film and worth a watch but I'd recommend seeing the first one first to know what's going on. Even the more hardcore fans of the first film should enjoy the second.

Re: Tron Legacy
ah yes..... what indeed happened to tron at the end of the film is a great question and one in which i liked how it ended because it didn't give 100% closure..... the way in which the tron universe works is quite wonderful...
btw, it's been 28 years since the last movie.. the movie starts at i think 1989... 7 years after the orginal tron experience... and then after the intro..... the movie jumps an additional 21 years to present day. As for the phone being disconnected...... and yet the power active.... there are ways around that, actually there might be a scene in the first movie about flynn "stealing" power, or just a mention of it somehow... it's been a little over 2 years since i last watched it........ however what drives me a little wonky is the fact that the breaker box is opened and he hits ONE switch to turn on all the arcades.. but at the end of the movie.. he his the MAIN and everything else lights up.... which doesn't make sense. Frankly i liked the end.... using a little bit of einstiens most known simplistic equation.

Re: Tron Legacy
really?
i didn't see all that many really..... there were definitely gaps in terms of story that allowed you to think up whatever to fill it in.. or leaving it open for a future film... which i would hope to come

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!! first problem my date and I noticed was how quick he got the motorcycle back right out of jail that same night. Then the arcade didn't make much sense to me when i watched the second time around. flick of a switch the power is back on, the games are running, but everything was covered up. so who covers up all the stuff with the shit plugged in and turned on? who was paying the electric bill for the last couple decades? lol...but whatever its a disney movie haha |

Course being actual owner of enron itself..... there is no doubt that after the initial arrest....he likely had everything ready for him... course base jumping is another matter probably... but you can fill in all the different ways this can be resolved... Quote:

however it would not be a surprise if either it was being stolen.... or a surplus paid out or auto withdrawl or just agreement was made for flynns arcade.... If i want to.. i can pay a huge surplus into my power bill and not have to worry about having to pay a single bill for years.. decades.. centuries if the service provided excists still... Those are rather trival "gaps" or holes.... Personally i think they tried spending all that extra time trying to fill in the gaps.... people would grow tired of the movie and it would have lost it's fast pace...

Re: Tron Legacy
I watched the original last night in preparation for Legacy. I like how Jeff Bridges is used in both of them... lets it carry on really nicely.
Time to see the new one....
