As far as i recall any GSM Functions such as phone calls and texts rely on a mobile network signal so basically no signal, No calls or texts. But operations that use your data such as Web browsing, Email, Blackberry Messenger and the like can run off either GPRS Signal or WiFi and they default to the fastest one |

Re: Do you use a Smartphone?
Used to have an iPhone but after the iPad release I couldn't maintain a call to save my life. Broke contract a few months early I was so fed up with AT&T. I now have a Droid Incredible on Verizon. Use it for phone, texting, e-mail and music. I still prefer the iPhone, but I can't upgrade until Feb. 2012. At that point I might as well wait a few more months as the iPhone 6 should be out.

Re: Do you use a Smartphone?
Looks smart to me.
![]() LG GT540 here (an Android device). I've only had it for around 20 days and before it, I had a very basic dumbphone so I'm still exploring, but it's neat to have 'net on the go from time to time and an app for almost everything. I'll probably try to make an app for it sometime.

Re: Do you use a Smartphone?
I don't understand the usefulness of a "Smart"Phone. I already own a regular mobile phone, a PC, a laptop, an XBOX 360, and an iPod Classic 120GB. Why would I need anything else within 3 seconds of me reaching in my pocket that is really THAT important?
Stereotypically, all people are using it for is fakebook posts, and laughing at 30 seconds of a dog farting on JewTube. If anything, "Smart"Phones are making people less smart, due to the convenience of instant gratification they provide. People used to have to strive to be more knowledgeable; now, they can just pay $2.95 for a facsimile of knowledge, one minutiatic bit at a time. This is rather lazy from a learning standpoint. "Give me a fish, and I'll eat for a day. Teach me to fish, and I'll post 17-second duration poor-quality videos to my fakebook of me doing the act itself" |

Re: Do you use a Smartphone?
I'm using a Desire HD at the moment. Main app I'm using on it is a program called Jefit for logging my workout sessions on. Fookin love that program! Also got a heart rate monitoring app on it to make sure I'm not suffering a heart attack during workouts.
I've got my Gmail set up on it, so I get instant notifications when I receive an email. I've got Firefox on there which I can sync with Firefox on my desktop (FF 4 beta) Dont use facebook so obviously dont have that set up. Got my pronz on it. Music, Got Engadget app on there. I got Copilot Live Sat Nav installed. The list goes on and on.

Re: Do you use a Smartphone?
I have an old Nokia N82 startphone and it's almost begun to irritate me. My next thing would most likely be an iphone.

Re: Do you use a Smartphone?
Windows Mobile 6.0 piece of crap. Occasionally used it for GPS navigation and more rarely for web browsing and editing documents. Planning to get an Android phone, probably a Motorola DEFY.

Palm Pre. I'm one of the few who seems to really like it. I use it for everything! Currently having problems putting down Angry Birds Seasons. It's like crack. But I have even watched an entire football game on this phone.

Re: Do you use a Smartphone?
Tasteh!
I love Nokia phones. I've only ever owned bricks, never a smart phone, but it's just a simple, elegant, easy to use design that never, ever breaks. I still have every phone I've ever owned, and they all work. I'm not careful either. Plus, because bricks are so cheap now, when it comes to replacing a phone after a year or two, I just get one for free from a friend or family member who's had it replaced on contract

Re: Do you use a Smartphone?
I've actually noticed a bit of a pattern in this thread, it seems a fair few of you use your phones to log your workout sessions, so if i had to take a guess I'd say that gps is an important feature for a few of you to look out for?

I bought a Motorola DEFY, as I said I thought of doing. It's the first time I actually find browsing on a phone usable. It's still less convenient than using a PC, but it's good enough that I use it on a regular basis. |

Re: Do you use a Smartphone?
Here's a bit of an update on the usefulness of my Blackberry Curve:
As almost all of you know, I'm clinically deaf. That means I simply cannot use the phone for voice calls. But, there are so many other ways I can use it for communication! Email, Facebook, SMS, MMS, Instant Messaging, etc. But, there's one other app I got not long ago that even makes Voicemail somewhat useful to me. Why, "somewhat?" OK, I'll tell you. ![]() There's a free app I downloaded that uses Voice Recognition Software to transcribe any voice mails I get into an SMS Text message that I can read. Now, anyone who's ever tried to use VRS knows the pitfalls and such that go with it. Sooooo....the SMS message I DO get is "somewhat" useful MOST of the time. Kind of like me trying to translate a foreign language. But, it does show promise.

And I don't think that it's a good substitute for an mp3 player, even though it looks like a slam dunk at a glance. Sure, the music sounds really good on my LG GT540 if I switch the earphones and the music software in it is nice (it's an Android phone), but I can't do anything with it (change song, volume, etc) without taking it out of my pocket, "thanks" to it having a touchscreen and because I often have to get to the player from the home screen before doing anything else. It also drains the battery faster and if I switch the earphones to gain sound quality I lose the hands free ability (not that I care). So I found that I prefer carrying my Walkman, which is a fraction of the size of the phone anyway, beside my smartphone. Besides, while I can understand why someone would prefer a smart-phone over a regular mobile, but I also understand why someone doesn't care if his phone has a particular OS and an app market. Some people like downloading new apps every week (or day), others get a tool for the job, make sure that it has all they need out of the box and don't care whether it's a smartphone, a featurephone or something else.
