Do you use a Smartphone?

I'm just curious as to how many of HH are using Smartphones, And if you are what do you use it for?

Currently rocking a Blackberry Curve 8520 here, Use it for music, Facebook, Blogging, Web browsing, VERY heavy email usage and a one helluva lot of Texting and calling Generally a power user

iPhone. I find it comes in handy for tidbits of information, making & receiving phonecalls/texts/emails, alarm clock, MP3 player and the occasional game. I also find that a torch app comes in remarkably handy.

Blackberry. Although it is data only and it is a requirement for work. I wouldn't willingly purchase a blackberry.

Re: Do you use a Smartphone?

iPhone. I use it as an iPod and a phone and email checker (basically no apps) so it's quite functional for that purpose. I'm also using TMobile's $6/mo data plan, so it's a complete steal.

I'm sporting the same as Mousey, here: Blackberry Curve 8530.

Among other things, I use it as my alarm clock. Set it under my pillow and use the Vibration mode since I'm deaf -- and unable to hear any alarm clock.

Re: Do you use a Smartphone?

Smartphones? No way! Recently been investigating through this. All platforms seemed just a pain in the ass for me. Decided to stick with SE A200 phone instead. It may not be top notch, but at least it does what I want. And it's smooth and reliable. That's just my choice.

Re: Do you use a Smartphone?

I have a SE Satio and use it constantly. It's my MP3 player and I use it a lot for that. I also download programs from the iPlayer or from torrents and watch them in bed or in the bath. I listen to internet radio quite a lot. I use a sports app that tracks my times/distance/gps when Mountain Biking. I use the net but only for quick bits of info like weather, train times etc - browsing is not ideal as the screen is only 3.5". I also take quite a few pictures of course because the camera is pretty good.

It's very handy and I would look at getting something similar with a bigger screen. Maybe another smartphone or a small tablet device.

Re: Do you use a Smartphone?

Those of you using the Blackberry Curve: Have you updated to the latest FB update, 1.9.0.20?

And, more importantly, are you experiencing any problems getting Notifications and/or viewing Messages?

R.I.M. is taking feedback on such problems.

I AM having trouble with the Messages not loading. I was also having an Error upon rebooting the phone. I uninstalled this latest update and that error went away. So, I'm attempting to install the update again to see if the problem disappears.

Yeah i'm using that update, Every now and again it just basically crashes my phone, App Error 523 which requires a full reboot and it's gone into a reboot cycle more than one

Re: Do you use a Smartphone?

I don't have one and don't plan on ever? getting one. I dislike huge screens on phones, touchscreens and (where applicable) tiny keyboard. The other thing is battery life. With a smartphone doing as many things as they can, you risk ending up of using the battery for everything else but the phone call you need to have.
I have a SE K800i and I don't even use the media player on it.

I feel old.

I'm not Mousey, but, I DO use the WiFi whenever available and that does include at home. And, if I understand WiFi at all, yes, it does send data via the WiFi network rather than the "connection" on the phone. That's why it's faster, if I understand correctly.

Try uninstalling this update and then reinstalling after a reboot. At least for me, after doing this, that error is gone. You likely will have to remove the battery to force the reboot.

No, I don't use a smart phone because I'm pretty sure they're made for dumb people.

I think what you want to do in this case is install the Blackberry Desktop Application and do your downloads and installs via that. That way, you bypass any connection via your provider, I believe. You likely have a few updates you need to install already.

BlackBerry - BlackBerry Desktop Software

Re: Do you use a Smartphone?

I've been off the grid for a few months now but I've owned 3 Nokias (2 Symbian), 2 Black Berrys (a Curve and a Pearl) and a Samsung. I think I'd like to get either an iPhone or an Android phone next.
