Re: Anime
Yeah, I'm a fan myself. I am learning Japanese so these movies are good practice.
I just watched Time of Eve last week and quite enjoyed it. It's the usual thing of Japanese boy falls in love with a robot. You know the Japanese population is dropping like a stone. I think if the Japanese could develop a lifelike female robot they would never bother with real women again. ![]() Summer Wars is about a kid who gets tricked into going on vacation with the school hot girl because she wants him to pose as her boyfriend in front of the family. More comedy less sci-fi. I can't remember the title of this one, something like Those Days of our Past. It was about some kids that wanted to build a ship to fly to this massive tower in another country. Confused the shit outta me ![]() My recent favourite was The Girl Who Leapt Through Time - that one was about a girl that found a device that let her jump back in time. I would welcome some recommendations too.. |

Might look up Time of Eve, never heard of it. I love that director -- he also did this, if you haven't seen it -- it was his first work, and he did it all himself:YouTube - She and Her Cat He also did Voices of a Distant Star, and is really amazing, although his work is very shojo (not that I mind...). And it's okay. I have 1.2TB atm and it's growing quickly. Edit: Downloading Time of Eve now. Reminds me of Eden of the East (another very very good series). Also, if anyone is looking for an amazing mindfuck anime (it's more screwy than Paprika), go look up Welcome to the NHK!. I should get around to finishing Cowboy Bebop, but its never really grabbed me...

Re: Anime
Yes, that's the one....
Looks interesting - I can only find low-res versions online but I'll keep my eyes open for a DVD or BD. |

Re: Anime
I'm more a fan of the more "grown up" type anime than the kiddie stuff. Ghost in the Shell, Bleach, Death Note, Neon Genesis, Monster, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Noir, Hellsing, Trigun, probably throw in Basilisk too with the odd kid stuff thrown in like DBZ (early seasons).
Edit: plus, of course, stuff like Akira, Steamboy, Ninja Scroll... |

![]() Edit: Tip, Bleach, Deathnote, Neon, Cowboy, Samurai, Hellsing, and Trigun are all shonen anime aimed for "kids" aged 13-17, along with the Dragonball stuff. If you wanna talk about seinen (age 17-30), go look up Wolf & Spice (also called Spice & Wolf elsewhere in the world). Amazing anime about economics...and wolfgirls. Never really liked Ghost in the Shell, haven't seen Noir -- thanks for putting that back on my radar.

Re: Anime
In order of recommendation:
1. Akira. Every westerner needs to watch it. 2. Any random mecha series like Grendizer, Godannar or any other mecha anime that anyone can recommend where the pilot has to yell out what they're doing at the top of their lungs. Come to think of it, watch Godannar so you know what the Japanese think western women look like. 2. Evangelion. It revolutionised anime. 'Nuff said. 3. A Gundam series, preferably Wing or later as you can judge whether you like it or not. 6. Every Hayao Miyazaki film. Seriously, all of them. Throw some other Studio Gibli films in there too. The rest you should be able to figure out for yourself. I'd also strongly recommend watching Ghost in the Shell, at least the first film. I'm a big fan of anime and I'd recommend a lot of them but those are the ones I'd recommend to newcomers.

Re: Anime
Off the top of my head as it would be too much to mention all the anime I've seen over time.
1. I'm currently watching Vandread, about the life of a boy in a universe where men and women are at war (yeah I know, how do they make their babies, its explained in the anime early on, at least for the women it is but it didn't make sense lol) and it is a good anime, I'd recommend it for the good mix of comedy and mecha action it brings to the fold. 2. Elfen Lied, if you haven't seen it watch it. Not for kids though. 3. Gantz, brilliant, just brilliant. 4. Speed Grapher, another awesome anime. synthesis I sent you an invite to the Gold 'n Alumni group and there's an anime section there where you should be able to find a few more suggestions.

Re: Anime
Hopefully we can keep this thread alive, at least..! D:
And I'll get around to it...first time I visited my school's anime club was on White Day, where they showed Fruits Basket/Green Green/Clannad and that sort of scarred me (have since gotten over it (mostly) and seen the former and latter).
