what's wrong with baby skunks? they look adorable. So what if they make a stink.. at least the kids will have learnt their lesson.
Why would this make a parent go grey? Learning is part of life...

You've never been sprayed by a skunk, have you? Or had to deal with someone, or a pet that has....... That "stink" lasts for weeks and will water your eyes at 20 feet. Nasty stuff, that!

yep... but threatened to them sometimes equates to being within 10 feet of something....

and man... while i never was sprayed by a skunk, my uncle caught one in a trap meant for raccoons.... that yard smelled for a while....

Not quite true. Skunks will actually try to avoid danger it at all possible. I've been that close to them on numerous occasions, and as long as you don't do something to panic them they will back away and try to escape.

Spraying is really a last resort for them since once they spray, they are 'unarmed' for two of three days until they can 'recharge'.

The thing to look for is if/when they start stamping their front feet. That means "Back off, or else".

Skunks are really very gentle, beneficial critters, and de-scented skunks make excellent pets.

I've never been where a skunk has actually sprayed in self-defense. But, I HAVE driven down a few roads where an unlucky skunk got ran over. You can detect the stink a quarter or a mile before and it's hard to get out of the car once you pass over the area.

Truly horrible and breath-taking....in a very BAD way.

still.. wouldn't worry me too much as a parent.
Once the kids get sprayed they'll think twice (or maybe 10 times) before doing it again.

No, you do NOT want to find out. It's so very bad you don't even want to breathe while in the area of this smell. You literally do NOT want to take a breath.

And, @Neshi: You must not be a parent. This stink is so very, very bad you do not want to have to deal with it. Would you stand idly by and let a child put their hand in a fire? Some protection is really called for and, in this case, due to what could be the outcome, it's definitely warranted. ONE skunk can put out enough horrible odor to cause a whole block of the area to be affected. Imagine what SIX or EIGHT skunks could do!
