Re: best movies to watch in HD/Blu ray

Tron: Legacy
The Fifth Element (the newer releases, not the very first one as it was a S4!7 transfer.. got recalled too)
Blade Runner
The Matrix
Batman Begins and Dark Knight (the latter is amazing on BR)
Iron Man
The Watchmen
Transformers
Serenity + the Firefly TV series
Battlestar: Galactica TV series (season 2 and on look amazing while the firsts space shots were grainy)
Star Wars: The Clone Wars seasons 1 and 2

Upcoming:
Lord of the Rings Extended Trilogy (coming June 28, 2011..)
Star Wars: The Complete Saga (coming September 16, 2011)

And while the movie may or may not have been crap (depends on who you talk to), Speed Racer is simply one gorgeous film, and especially so on Blu Ray. Best quote: "It's orgasmic eye candy".

Yeah, yeah.. this is definitely a sci-fi heavy list. There others I can add, like the Planet Earth series and it's like, or The God Father, plus any number of Disney films like Up!, Wall-E, and The Incredibles (out this Tuesday), but.. nah..

I am a big fan of Blade Runner. I watched about 5 min of the BR edition. I still drool whenever I think of it. It's going to be my first BR.

Re: best movies to watch in HD/Blu ray

Anything Pixar. Battlestar Galactica Razor also looks fantastic. Star Wars The Clone Wars Animated Series. Sin City is about as perfect as a bluray can get. Its audio track = fantastic. I could go on and on but that is where you should start.

Anyone tried a BR version of Alexander? Yes, I know that Angelina has a Russian accent in that, but it is still a great movie IMO.

Cannot believe that i forgot to mention Star Trek 2010 that looks awesome in Bluray (you can actually see R2D2 clearly as opposed to the blur he was on DVD)

And both Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk films

Apocalypto used to be my BD reference until Avatar came along. The scenes at the temple really show off the format. Toy Story 3 looked really good on BD as well.

I've heard Star Trek 2010 was one of the best on BR...

I also agree with Lowfat saying anything Pixar. Desciable Me is great

Saving Private Ryan is a good one to have too I think.

Re: best movies to watch in HD/Blu ray

Thanks guys great list, here's what I got so far:

Star Wars Episode III
300
2001 A Space Odyssey
2012
War of the Worlds
Cloverfield
Resident Evil Extinction
V for Vendetta *****
xXx
and Sin City *****

I put stars next to the best. BR makes a damn heck of difference as we've been collecting DVD and VCD versions for years we have dozens of old movies lying around everywhere but the fact that they are not HD+/BR makes me lazy to watch them and i'd rather just sleep.

I recently got The matrix 1 and 3 havent watched them yet, Sunshine (pretty darn good) and apocalype now havent watched it either. Case you have noticed I stoped gaming and now moving towards the living room. We have an old Bravia 2 not bad but its 38" only. Need to go W___I___D___E____R

Re: best movies to watch in HD/Blu ray

basically anything that is animated that is recent (no more then 5 years old....) seems to provide the best blu-ray experience.

in live action.. anything big box office and sci-fi/fantasy related seems to be the major kickers..

otherwise many of the old movies or other movies i find to be grainy looking... or poorly formated....

i've over 100 blu-rays..... but i'd definitely go with the latest avatar collectors eddition and tron legacy as well as star trek 2009...... as for animated.... The guardians of (name can't think of it) with the owls is utterly spectacular in terms of art in motion..... brilliant... specially the ocean tornado scene...... gorgous

Thanks for reminding me:

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

Although it's more for die hard fans, it still looks great on BR.

The night scenes of the forest on Pandora are gorgeous, even more so on BR playing a nice big screen.

Re: best movies to watch in HD/Blu ray

Star Wars isn't out on bluray yet. So whatever Episode III you have isn't actually bluray. It is an HDTV rip.

Re: best movies to watch in HD/Blu ray

It depends on your system capabilities if you have a receiver which decodes DTS and DD lossless then there's a few Blu-rays that offer the ultimate in audio and video perfection (at least until 4K movies come out). I've watched just about everyone of the top rated Blu-rays and here are my favorites.

-Avatar would be at the top of the list I have all 3 versions (Theatrical, Extended and 3D) and nothing else pushes the limits like it does. So colorful and the bitrate maxes out any Blu-ray disc.

-Tron Legacy mostly for the sound. Absolute crushing LFE not just from the sub but even surrounds. Almost unheard of to have a movie be this loud. Visuals are top notch but it's a muted color scheme going on.

-The Dark Knight. Imax scenes are incredible quality

-Baraka: Like looking through a window. Might have been made in '92 but nothing comes close to being this real.

-Kill Bill 1 & 2. Great visuals and sound is too real. Neighbors will call the cops thinking you're in a domestic dispute during the first fight scene.

-Blade Runner. Haven't watched this on BD yet but I know it to be one of the best quality restorations out there.

-No Country for Old Men. Never expected this one to be such an amazing Blu-ray. Video and audio are near perfect.

Anything from Pixar or other animated movies go without question. Nearly every HBO series offers top audio and video, blows away network television Blu-rays.

If you want to go hardcore then consult the Bible of Blu-ray quality.
