Do you use pirated windows?

I started this thread to know that how many peoples in this forum use pirated windows and never buyed original disc.

Yes once before...

It were windows xp that had the activation code removed..Never had issues with it either...

kind of a try before you buy method i used a cracked Xp then after 6 months bought it and basically did the same with Vista always planned to buy it but used an iffy "test" copy first

Win 7 though i had genuine from day one

The only timed I used illegal copy of OS was in 1994 till about 1996. That was DOS and Windows 3.11 Mainly because it came preinstalled on my then new PC. Anything before that one and after, legal copies.

I've had them off and on..

Since windows vista... i've been in the gray area through use of the slmgr -rearm trick.... while i do have multiple copies of a geniune version always around... i tend to make changes to the machines i use so often and don't keep them long enough to make it really a necessity to have a cd key tied to the machines..

only after it's finalized and i sell the product does a geniune copy get tied to it.

i don't typically keep the same OS installed on my main machines here for anything more then 3 or 4 months.. sometimes 5 or 6

I remember buying IBM's OS/2 Warp, within which there was included a Windows 3.11 license...

got one already installed when I bought the laptop. If that wasn't the case I would have been naughty, most likely.

When you can subscribe to Microsoft TechNet Standard for $200 ($150 renewal), why even bother pirating? I get access to all their OS, all their Office packages, and then some (excluding Enterprise software), for $200. I can easily make that money back... just not going to say how (although everyone should be able to guess how).

I didn't know about that - I guess it makes sense if you're in the position to reap the rewards.

All I'll say about my own media consumption is that I always try to contribute to developers who's work I value, and who deserve that contribution.

For example, I'd probably never pirate a Valve game.

I have never even attempted to run a pirated OS. I figure that when I have a problem with Windows, I don't want it to be because of using a pirated version. I just don't like the idea of screwing around with the framework that runs my whole computer.

Games and apps....well, that's a different story, but the OS, no.

I know I could probably get away with using a prated OS if I wanted to, but I just don't.

However, regardless of which version you can grab all the keys that each level provides (2 keys per product for Standard, and 5 per with Pro, with 10 activations per key if I remember correctly... or was that 20?), not renew, and the keys you got will still work thereafter. I see. It's a good offer if you want all that software. The only MS software I use is the OS so, I guess not that much for me.
