First, welcome to HH. Second, the post is in the wrong forum.

As to the problem, there are at least two things you need to know:

1. A hard drive purchased off the shelf has to be formatted in order to become usable no matter what it's going to be connected to. So, first, you'll need a computer....or borrow one...to be able to format that new hard drive.

2. In order for an XBOX 360 to recognize that hard drive, it will have to be formatted into FAT32. That's an older formatting scheme that limits file sizes to a maximum of 4 GBs each. So, even if you were to get that hard drive recognized by the 360, if you're purpose is to view HD content, you're likely going to be hitting your head against a wall as most video content, e.g. movies, that come in HD are going to exceed the 4 GB limit of FAT32.

+1 to everything that Dyre said (I would +rep you Dyre but I'm not allowed).

If you want to watch DVD-quality movies, though, it would be fine. Furthermore, you'd be able to store upwards of 4000 DVD-quality movies...
